We are a small, but successful, company that relies upon a team of experienced and dedicated managers, who work with esteemed authors and other industry leaders to deliver books and materials that make a difference.Our Production Manager has announced their retirement, and we are seeking an experienced, highly organized, enthusiastic, collaborative, and strategic-thinking professional to join our team, and to help maintain our reputation for delivering a quality experience for authors and customers alike.Position: Book Production ManagerReports to: President/CEOFull time on siteGENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:• Ensure that books from manuscript to bound book and eBook (currently 30–40 titles per year) are produced efficiently, on time, and within budget.• Work closely with the editorial acquisition team, authors, and other departments, as necessary, to ensure a quality experience throughout.• Manage one direct report.FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:• Project Management: Overseeing the entire production process from manuscript to finished book.• Scheduling: Creating and maintaining production schedules to ensure timely delivery.• Budgeting: Managing production budgets and negotiating with vendors.• Quality Control: Ensuring the final product meets quality standards.• Coordination: Working with authors, editors, designers, and printers.• Problem-Solving: Addressing any issues that arise during production.• Vendor Management: Selecting and managing relationships with typesetters, printers, copy-editors, indexers, proofreaders and other suppliers.DESIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND EXPERIENCE:• Bachelor’s degree• Five to ten years of book publishing experience; experience in academic and professional publishing a plus• Knowledge of the print and electronic publishing production processes• Excellent communication and negotiation skills• Strong attention to detail• Highly motivated, organized, and proactive with the ability to multitask as required to meet all deadlines• Team player with the ability to build relationships, work collaboratively, and communicate effectively with other departments• Ability to manage multiple vendors• Experience with all Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite platforms (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) a plus• Experience with multiple style guides (APA, AMA, Chicago Manual)Salary range: $60,000-$90,000 commensurate with experienceBenefits include: Health insurance, Paid time off (PTO), 401(k) with matching, Management Incentive Plan
