The Blueprint (Role Profile)

Apex Tool Group has an exciting opportunity for a Finance leader to play a key role in driving the financial success of the North America Hand Tools (NAHT) business unit. The Manager, Financial, Planning & Analysis, will drive efficiency in all core NAHT FP&A while providing enhanced transparency and understanding of key business measures and drivers. The position reports to the Vice President, Finance, NAHT. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and presenting the monthly forecasts for the business unit, creating policies and controls, and tracking progress of the business through established Financial and Business KPIs. Additionally, this person will be responsible not only for timely and accurate budgeting, monthly forecast and other reporting, but also ensure internal controls are in place to comply with approval authority matrices and managing working capital.

The Build (Responsibilities)

  • Develop and maintain “best-in-class” core FP&A functions, including: forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, liquidity planning, M&A modeling/analysis, Annual Operating Plan (budget) and 3 year strategic plan.
  • Provide support and analysis to key leaders to improve FP&A and business process connectivity and oversee IBP (integrated business planning) process for the BU, and generate and analyze Monthly Business Review (MBR) package for scenario planning and to identify risks & opportunities forecasts
  • Effectively partner with departments involved in core FP&A activities (e.g. Operational Accounting) including analyzing budget variances and working closely with global counterparts to understand and drive performance.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting team to improve transparency and to ensure timely and highly accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide timely, accurate and effective executive backup materials for internal review (e.g. business unit reviews, Board of Director meetings, etc.).
  • Develop, manage and retain a team of high-performing finance professionals – serve as a role model for how an FP&A group works collaboratively and effectively with all departments of the company.
  • Partner with Accounting team to communicate operating and financial results and future projections to business units in a meaningful way that it is readily understood, actionable and reflects insight into key business issues.
  • Assist with monthly close activities and complete reporting requirements.
  • Support development and execution of strategic and tactical plans, including leading efforts to simplify pricing, streamline and standardize gross to net management, reduce E&O, minimize bad debt, and drive working capital improvements.


The Toolbox (Qualifications)

  • Business or Accounting degree required; master’s in business administration and/or CPA preferred
  • 7+ years’ proven, effective leadership experience required, must have prior commercial finance / operations experience
  • Knowledge of GAAP, SEC rules, financial consolidation systems (Hyperion), ERP system (SAP experience strongly preferred) and internal control frameworks
  • Proven track record of success driving transformational organizational change / process improvements in a matrixed, global organization
  • Effective leader with gravitas and ability to collaborate with executives, key stakeholders and business partners
  • Ability to quickly assess business issues and work effectively with leaders and stakeholders to develop strategic and tactical plans to effectively communicate with all relevant parties
