The Marathon Petroleum Robinson Refinery, a major petroleum refiner and marketer, is seeking highly motivated Process Technology Operator Interns.
Operator interns work alongside refinery Operators to monitor, regulate, troubleshoot, and safely operate complex process equipment. Refinery Operators refine crude oil and other feedstocks into transportation fuels, such as conventional gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and other petroleum products.
The goal of this program is to provide a hands-on learning experience to qualified individuals who are in their final semester of the Lincoln Trail College (Robinson, IL) 2-year Process Technology Program.
Develop and apply knowledge, technical skills and interpersonal skills in the workplace under the direction assigned Shift Supervisor.
Job shadow Operators on a regular basis.
Work in a controlled refinery environment, while learning about the Operator position at the refinery, including:
Managing and monitoring the outside equipment and control functions involved in the Refinery processes.
Gathering data from these functions and analyzing and interpreting it into appropriate action as operational adjustments or recommendations.
Providing assistance with unit startups and shutdowns.
Possessing an in-depth knowledge of the physical portion of the plant.
This hands-on experience at the refinery, in addition to the education provided via the Process Technology Program, should afford the student a solid foundation to confidently pursue a career as an Operator.
Operators Process Technology Interns work in a safety-sensitive environment and must successfully complete a rigorous pre-employment assessment process, drug/alcohol/medical screenings, and a background check.
The Refinery operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Operator Process Technology Interns work on a DuPont Day/Night, 12-hour rotating shift schedule, with some overtime required.
Candidates are required to be completing the Lincoln Trail College 2-year Process Technology Program in Spring 2025.
Good class standing required - no academic probation accepted.
Will be required to submit official college transcripts.
High School graduate or GED equivalent, required.
At least 18 years of age required.
Valid driver's license is required.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time, indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Employees are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
Work performed at ground level and at heights on concrete, metal grating, gravel, asphalt and piping surfaces, with ability to climb over 75 feet, lifting 40 pounds plus, carrying 10-20 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds with mechanical assistance and working in confined spaces.
Operators Process Technology Interns are expected to be able to wear all protective equipment including self-contained breathing apparatus.
