Developer Advocate

Octopus Deploy sets the standard for Continuous Delivery, empowering software teams to deliver value in an agile way. Over 4,000 organizations globally –  including Ubisoft, ASOS, Xero, monday.com, Stack Overflow, NASA, and Disney – rely on our Continuous Delivery, GitOps, and release orchestration solutions.

Founded in Australia in 2012, our team of over 300 Octonauts now spans the globe. We combine high growth and big ambitions with a sustainable, balanced working environment. Our revenue has grown consistently between 30–50% every year for the past 8 years, and we’ve been profitable for 10 out of the past 11 years.

We’ve been remote-first since 2015 and work with an uncommon level of transparency. You can read our public handbook to learn how we work. We have a transparent approach to compensation that ensures people doing the same work with the same skill get paid the same, with well-defined career pathways. We foster a supportive, collaborative, and high-trust environment. We leave our job titles at the door and focus on doing what’s best for our customers and team. Our leaders never shy away from answering the tough questions at our all-hands calls or in 1:1s. We conduct interviews and onboarding virtually as part of being a remote-first company.

A Developer Advocate at Octopus brings deep experience in software delivery and development. They have automated builds and deployments and have been responsible for software running in production. They have lived in the DevOps trenches.

They have a growth mindset and continually add to their knowledge through engagement in DevOps and GitOps community forums, listening to podcasts, reading blogs and industry books, and other sources. Guided by our strategic stories, they use this combination of knowledge to create original and unique content, and deliver that content in writing, video, and in-person events.

About your team

The Developer Advocate will be part of the Developer Relations team. The Developer Relations team approaches content creation through strategic stories and tactical industry awareness. We own the full content lifecycle, not just raw content creation. As part of this work, we want to squeeze more juice from our content ideas by distributing and re-publishing our ideas and opinions across multiple channels.

About the Developer Advocate role

You'll be a lifelong learner deeply interested in software delivery, culture and methods, DevOps, GitOps, Continuous Delivery, Agile, Lean, and related technical subjects like Cloud, Kubernetes, and software design. You'll create content that helps our industry develop better working methods and connect real-world customer problems to our product.

You'll draw on industry and original research to develop unique perspectives for content that will change minds and direct our industry. You'll connect with special interest groups and participate in multi-vendor and practitioner discussions to develop empathy with people we can help.

In addition to creating core content, you'll create distribution pieces that extend its reach and remix it for additional channels. For example, a white paper about a DevOps topic might be accompanied by guest posts on industry sites, a video interview about the article with our community team, a featured email in our Continuously Delivered series, and a set of social posts.

What you'll be doing:
  • Create content in different formats, such as articles, white papers, videos and webinars, talks, social posts, and more.
  • Develop and execute research initiatives (surveys, polls, etc.) and use collected insights to develop insightful content benefiting the Developer community.
  • Create content to build an audience, share our key ideas, and create demand for our product.
  • Remix and distribute content through different channels and formats.
  • Audit and refresh existing key content.
  • Review content created for SEO.
  • Track reputable industry research.
  • Interact with special interest groups in our niche.
  • Analyze content to work out what resonates with our audience and helps us achieve our goals.

You're the ideal candidate if you have/are:
  • A technical background that covers creating, deploying, and running software.
  • Strong communication, presentation, writing, editing, research, and analysis skills.
  • A passion for staying current with industry trends and technologies.
  • Able to set up Octopus and related technologies to create scenarios for content.
  • Able to practically express the value of Octopus solution in the life of the developer
  • Familiar with collaborative tools, such as Google Docs and GitHub.
  • An understanding of SEO and analytics.
  • Self-driven attitude
  • Experience working in a remote-first environment
