About the Team

OpenAI Finance is responsible for ensuring the organization is set up for success in pursuit of its mission. The Compute & Infrastructure team shares financial insights and partners with internal and external business stakeholders to manage all aspects of cloud computing and platform infrastructure costs. This team ensures operational scalability, commits to financial accuracy, and empowers informed decision-making.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced accounting manager with a strong foundation in technical accounting to join our team. You will have deep subject matter expertise in technical accounting (ASC 842), strong analytical skills, and attention to detail. In this role, you will be a key player in driving the financial success of the organization by ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting for a critical part of OpenAI’s business. 

This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

  • Own end-to-end financial accounting and reporting for compute & infrastructure costs to support a timely month-end close.

  • Drive improvements in the quality of numbers by working cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders to improve the reliability of data.

  • Maintain lease accounting schedules and record adjustments for lease modifications when appropriate.

  • Be the resident expert on ASC 842 and manage all hardware lease schedules and monthly accounting.

  • Build scalable processes and systems to support the scale-up of the organization.

  • Partner with other members of the accounting team to draft technical accounting memos related to platform infrastructure costs.

  • Be the primary liaison with external auditors for compute & platform infrastructure costs.

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in accounting, audit or advisory services; operational experience in technology companies is strongly preferred. 

  • Mastery of technical accounting concepts related to leases (ASC 842). 

  • Best-in-class attention to detail and unwavering commitment to accuracy in an ever-changing business environment. 

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders in various parts of the world on complex topics. 

  • Operational experience with monthly close and following a transaction start to finish.

  • Deep understanding of artificial intelligence development and platform infrastructure investments as key inputs to its success.

  • A passion for technology and artificial intelligence. 

  • CPA or CA strongly preferred.
