Accordingly, our Global Affairs team builds authentic, collaborative relationships in these domains. We ensure that insights from policymakers and stakeholders inform our work and collaborate with them to support regulation, industry standards, and safe and beneficial development of AI tools. The National Security Policy and Partnerships team is part of the broader Global Affairs team and is tasked with establishing and developing strong, trusted, and authentic relationships with national security officials, lawmakers, and other external stakeholders. The team seeks to engage all parts of the national security policymaking community and to provide technical and policy expertise. We also work closely with the broader Global Affairs team to build collaborative relationships with the public sector and other organizations that could benefit from using our tools.
About the Role
We’re seeking an experienced Government Relationship Manager to join our nimble, high-impact team and lead strategic relationships with U.S. government customers. Reporting to the Head of National Security, this role is integral to building and nurturing partnerships across national security and law enforcement, supporting OpenAI’s mission to connect with, educate, and collaborate with U.S. government stakeholders on advanced AI initiatives. You’ll play a key role in ensuring the alignment of goals, clear communication, and successful execution of custom engineering projects for national security clients.
Key Responsibilities:
Relationship Management: Act as the primary contact for government customers, building trust, transparency, and aligning objectives to ensure mutual success.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with engineering, security, and policy teams to design, implement, and oversee custom projects that adhere to agency security standards.
Strategic Project Oversight: Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables, ensuring seamless onboarding, compliance, and alignment with government needs.
Policy Engagement and Advocacy: Represent OpenAI in engagements with government stakeholders, develop policy recommendations, and support OpenAI leadership at key events and convenings.
Qualifications:
5+ years experience managing technical or contracting relationships with government entities, particularly within technology, AI, or engineering environments.
Prior experience with the government acquisition process or overseeing the implementation of government contracts
Strong understanding of government security protocols, regulations, and technical compliance requirements.
Demonstrated ability to coordinate cross-functional teams in high-stakes, regulated environments.
Excellent problem-solving skills and experience in handling complex, sensitive issues in a diplomatic and effective manner.
Hold Active U.S. Security clearance
