Brand Designer

Who we are at Osmo:

Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. Vision and hearing have been digitized, but not scent. It’s time we solve this. We’re bringing an unprecedented combination of software, data, hardware and capital to the historic challenge of giving computers a sense of smell.

We believe in the power of automation and carefully applied AI/ML to solve problems that are beyond what the unaided human mind can tackle on its own. In the first phase of our development, we are using our map of odor along with cutting-edge generative AI to create the next generation of aroma molecules (e.g., the ingredients in the fragrances we wear and the products we use). Beyond fragrance machine olfaction has application across many industries, including manufacturing, military, medicine, and more. Working for Osmo means solving problems using digital olfaction for these customers. We're a hybrid company with our headquarters in New York, NY, an upcoming facility in New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.

Osmo is seeking a Brand Designer. This is not your typical brand design role. We're looking for a passionate and adaptable designer who excels in packaging design, particularly within the fragrance or beauty space, and also possesses a strong foundation in graphic design and the ability to seamlessly transition between diverse projects. You will be a key player in shaping our brand's visual identity, with a primary focus on crafting compelling and innovative packaging solutions, while also contributing to broader brand design initiatives. This role demands a proactive individual who can juggle competing priorities, manage packaging vendor relationships, mitigate production risks and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Packaging Design Mastery:

    • Lead the conceptualization, design, and execution of packaging solutions for new and existing products, with a specialized focus on CPG, fragrance and/or beauty.

    • Ability to create packaging designs that are visually appealing, functional, and cost-effective.

    • Develop detailed packaging mockups, dielines, and technical specifications, ensuring feasibility and brand alignment.

    • Manage the entire packaging design process, from concept to production, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams (marketing, product development, and production).

    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and labeling standards for CPG products.

    • Experience designing for a variety of packaging formats (bottles, boxes, pouches, etc.).

    • Conduct thorough research on industry trends, material innovations, and printing techniques to elevate our packaging designs.

  • Vendor Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with packaging vendors, both small and large scale.

    • Negotiate pricing and timelines, ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely delivery.

    • Oversee the production process and quality control to ensure packaging meets specifications.

    • Mitigate and resolve any production or vendor-related issues that may arise.

  • Versatile Brand Design:

    • Create and maintain a consistent brand aesthetic across all design touchpoints, including digital and physical materials.

    • Develop compelling visual assets for marketing campaigns, social media, and website content.

    • Assist in the creation and refinement of brand guidelines and style guides.

    • Adapt to shifting project demands and contribute to various graphic design initiatives as needed.

  • Project Management & Collaboration:

    • Effectively manage multiple design projects and deadlines, prioritizing tasks to meet business objectives.

    • Collaborate seamlessly with senior designers and other team members, providing clear and constructive feedback.

    • Present design concepts and ideas with confidence and clarity to internal stakeholders.

    • Maintain organized design files and assets.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional experience with a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, or a related field.

  • Familiarity with 3D modeling and rendering software (e.g., SolidWorks, Cinema 4D, Blender).

  • Understanding of printing processes (offset, flexography, digital, etc.), materials (paperboard, plastics, films, etc.), prepress and production workflows.

  • Deep understand of UX & UI Package Design best practices including strong knowledge of interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility principles.

  • Ability to create wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.

  • Experience with 3D rendering software, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight deadlines, and adapt quickly to changing priorities.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to present and refine work with key stakeholders.

  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Nice to have

  • A strong emphasis on packaging design in-house at a CPG, fragrance or beauty industry startup.

  • Knowledge of sustainable packaging practices and materials.
