Porter is seeking a action-focused, analytical, and results-driven Operational Engineer to join our operations team. This role plays a critical part in managing operational demand, optimizing capacity, and driving forward-looking insights through data-driven planning and forecasting. The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking with hands-on modeling skills to ensure scalable, efficient, and proactive operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Demand Management
Translate client
Monitor and analyze demand trends across key service areas
Develop and refine demand intake frameworks to align business needs with operational readiness
Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business growth or program changes into operational requirements
Capacity Management
Build and maintain capacity models to ensure alignment of supply with demand across multiple time horizons, geographies, and other modalities
Define and manage resource thresholds, staffing requirements, and utilization metrics
Propose solutions for balancing capacity during peak periods or operational disruptions
Planning and Forecasting
Lead short- and long-term operational forecasting using historical data, business inputs, and predictive analytics
Translate strategic initiatives and demand signals into actionable operating plans
Support quarterly and annual planning cycles with robust scenario modeling and what-if analysis
Operational Modeling & Analytics
Design and maintain models to simulate operational performance under different assumptions and dimensions
Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements through quantitative analysis
Visualize insights through dashboards and reports to support operational decision-making
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial or Operational Engineering, Operations Research, Applied Math, Business Analytics, or related field
- 4–8 years of experience in an operations, planning, analytics, or process engineering role
- Strong proficiency in Excel and data modeling; experience with SQL, Python, or R is a plus
- Familiarity with capacity planning tools and forecasting software (e.g., Salesforce, Tableau, Power BI)
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex data into clear business recommendations
- Drives clarity by proactively soliciting input from stakeholders, asking targeted questions, and facilitating process-focused discussions to uncover operational needs.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
