Manager, Data Center Ops

Job Summary: As our Data Center Operations Manager, you’ll manage a team of Data Center Operations Technicians who maintain the data center IT environment 24x7x365 and ensure that all customer and internal server environments are secure, operational, and highly available.  You’ll deliver this through proactive performance management, assignment of responsibilities including projects and tasks, strengthening team engagement, utilization of 5S methodology, implementation of lean/continuous improvement practices and review of process compliance.

 

Work Location: Onsite at our datacenter located in Ashburn, VA.

  • Manage shift rotations, ensuring 24x7 coverage is maintained.
  • Set clear, measurable goals for all employees .
  • Ensure high levels of operational discipline are maintained by carrying out regular performance reviews and 1:1’s.
  • Ensure all tickets and maintenance tasks are managed quickly, professionally, and efficiently according to policies and procedures.
  • Act as the point of escalation for your team ensuring that all customer impacting events are resolved quickly and professionally and that root cause analysis is done post event.
  • Ensure that the IT technical spaces are maintained to world class standards of housekeeping by conducting regular 5S audits and overseeing all remedial activities.
  • Conduct regular meetings to ensure team and company alignment.
  • Engage and motivate team members in line with Rackspace core values.
  • Ensure effective onboarding of new team members.
  • Maximize availability via proactive intervention.
  • Develop the team both professionally and technically.
  • Work with peers to ensure that policies, procedures, and working practices are standardized and relevant.
  • Recruit new technicians ensuring that all new hires are of the highest possible standard for the roles. 


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study such as computer science. Additional experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Minimum of 9 years’ experience in datacenter operations and design.
  • 3 years of management experience.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering, design, configuration, installation, maintenance and upgrade of the local area network (LAN) and/or wide area network (WAN)
  • Basic knowledge of server and various software applications
