Role Summary
Rowan Digital Infrastructure is looking for a Vice President, Critical Facility Operations to play a central role in overseeing the operational success of Rowan's data center campuses and other critical facilities. This role combines high-level strategic oversight, day-to-day operational management, and leadership responsibilities, ensuring the facilities' infrastructure is robust, reliable, and optimized. The individual in this position is responsible for both the facility operations & maintenance as well as the asset management activities for the Rowan portfolio.
The successful candidate will be capable of managing critical facilities with an emphasis on ensuring uptime, maintaining robust operational systems, managing budgets, and leading technical teams. The VP will play an integral role in Rowan's success by ensuring that the company's critical facilities remain reliable, compliant, and ready to support business growth while minimizing risks. The position requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills.
Travel: Ability to travel up to 40% for company gatherings or to project sites
Location: Denver, CO (hybrid in-office role)
Compensation: $215K-$265K - Offers Bonus
Essential Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Oversight: Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies to optimize the portfolio of critical facilities, focusing on operations and maintenance, asset management, infrastructure upgrades, capacity planning, and redundancy. The VP will be the champion of the strategic plan and work with the Investment Committee, Rowan Board and Rowan Senior leadership. They will establish and monitor KPIs to track facility performance and adjust strategies to meet goals. The role also involves conducting risk assessments and creating mitigation plans to ensure continuous operations. Additionally, the VP will collaborate with Rowan’s commercial, financial, and engineering teams to align facility operations with broader business objectives
Operations and Asset Management: Oversight of the daily operations of critical facilities, including power generation, HVAC, security, and other infrastructure systems. They will ensure the implementation of maintenance programs, preventative schedules, and emergency procedures. Additionally, the VP will ensure compliance with safety protocols, regulatory standards, and service-level agreements with tenants, while leading the asset management team to monitor and maintain facility assets effectively
Team Leadership: Demonstrated experience building and leading a high-performing team of engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff, providing technical guidance and mentorship. They will also promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement to ensure team success and operational efficiency
Vendor Management: Own relationships with key vendors and contractors, negotiate contracts, and ensure they meet service levels and quality standards
Budgeting and Cost Control: Management of operational budgets for critical facilities, ensuring efficient resource allocation, and identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining operational reliability and safety
Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with various departments to align facility operations with organizational goals and communicate regularly with senior leadership about facility status, risks, and potential disruptions
Education, Skills, and Experience
15+ years of experience in the critical facilities/data center industry, including recent experience with commercial engagements with hyperscale customers for a development of data center campus environments that exceed 250+MW.
The optimal candidate will understand the changing landscape of critical power and cooling systems and FO service with regard to service levels and commercial compliance requirements.
Deep understanding of critical facility infrastructure systems, including power generation, HVAC, data center infrastructure, security systems, and emergency backup systems. This should also include network and communication/fiber systems.
Proven experience in managing complex facility operations, including maintenance programs, project management, and budget oversight
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop a technical team
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address potential facility issues
Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and compliance requirements
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders across departments and communicate with the IC and Rowan BOD
Bachelor's degree in engineering, facilities management, or a related field
