About the role
As a member of the Technical Documentation team, you will create and manage technical content that enables customers to run Dremio's On-Premises and SaaS solutions. You will have ownership over key documentation projects in Dremio's long-term product roadmap. You should be customer-focused and enjoy working with subject matter experts in various roles. You should be an expert builder who is comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, and have a roll-up-your-sleeves, entrepreneurial spirit. To succeed in this role, you should have a technical background in data engineering, data science, and/or business analytics.
What you’ll be doing
- Research, write, and maintain high-quality technical content (SQL commands and functions, API docs, user guide content).
- Work closely with subject matter experts around Dremio to ensure the quality, accuracy, and discoverability of the content you create.
- Quickly learn and use Dremio's products to ensure you can design and write content that is accurate and relevant to the user.
- Work with product managers, engineers, and support teams to ensure that all aspects of the Dremio solution are well-documented and easy to find.
- Respond to internal requests to improve and evolve our documentation, sometimes on short notice.
- Assist in designing and implementing improvements to the architecture and strategies of the documentation team (content management, content reuse, search and discoverability, etc.).
- Help define processes for writing documentation (SQL reference, API reference, user guides, overviews, troubleshooting, etc.) within product and engineering teams.
- Work with users outside of the documentation team to encourage contributions to our documentation.
- Contribute to and promote high-quality documentation standards and practices.
- Must be able to work independently without direction, and review all considerations and to determine how and when work is completed.
- Think and plan at the program-level planning, managing all considerations, as you will be involved in broad, organizational, cross-functional initiative planning.
What we’re looking for
- 12+ years of relevant experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing (writing samples required).
- You are passionate about instructional writing, with a focus on clarity, straightforward storytelling, and an information architect's approach to organizing material.
- Expert in the field of technical writing, with solid written and verbal communication skills and the ability to quickly establish good working relationships with subject matter experts on multiple teams.
- Ability to effectively realign priorities to meet shifting business needs and proactively influence the time requirements of others.
- Extensive and demonstrated experience developing content for SaaS and Enterprise applications.
- Must be highly detail-oriented, ensuring that you can produce the highest quality deliverables within required timelines to meet goals.
- Excellent time and project management skills that will enable you to start, build, and complete multiple documentation initiatives and prioritize your time to align with the organizational goals.
- Advanced and working knowledge of SQL, data warehousing, analytics, and public cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.).
- Experience using and documenting APIs and programming languages (Java, Python, etc.).
- Ability to manage and coordinate your work across multiple teams in a fast-paced development environment.
- Experience in a docs-as-code environment, using technologies like markdown, Git, and static site generators.
- Experience using Atlassian Jira and Confluence for issue tracking and knowledge management.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and adapt to new technologies and learn quickly.
Bonus points if you have
- Technical writing experience in the big data/data catalog industry.
- Proficiency with SQL commands and functions.

The base salary range for this position is $114,943 to $155,511 per year. The base salary actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations. A successful candidate may also be eligible to earn additional compensation including commissions and/or bonuses.
