Salary Recruitment Range: $46,817 - $55,000Salary Grade: NC13This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workday. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.Mission of the Department of Insurance:To promote a stable insurance market through unbiased regulation and to protect the lives and property of every citizen in all 100 counties while fostering superior, user-friendly service, courtesy, and respect.Primary Purpose of the Position:Fire investigators with the Office of State Fire Marshal will respond to incidents involving fires (i.e., structures, vehicle, brush), explosions, hazardous materials, civil disorders, special hazards posed by utilities and hazardous conditions across the state to provide support and investigative assistance upon request to local jurisdictions in determining origin, cause, and the circumstances of the incident. OSFM's priority will be supporting jurisdictions with the cause and origin of fires resulting in fatalities, large dollar loss fires and or explosions. Fire investigators will also work closely with other local, state, and federal agencies, as well as be required to testify in a court of law involving criminal or civil cases relating to their investigations. Investigators will be expected to use the data collected during their investigation to assist in preventing fires from occurring, as well as planning, developing, and presenting material related to fire prevention efforts. Additionally, fire investigators will assist in training and other programs for agencies involved in fire investigations.
