Role Overview:

As Head of AI you will lead a centralized team of ML/AI engineers and data scientists to build the latest and greatest features and capabilities for customers to use. We’re looking for a technical leader with hands-on experience in developing, testing and operating ML/AI models in production. You will collaborate deeply with product teams and commercial leaders to build AI and ML solutions grounded in consistent architectures that have proven repeatability with customers. You will define, evangelize and continuously optimize our AI strategy, methodologies and discipline to accelerate customer value and operational efficiency - driving differentiated business outcomes. This role requires knowledge and experience in modern coding languages, cloud infrastructure, machine learning, and language models, as well as curiosity to understand Taxfix’s quickly growing AI landscape.

As the Head of AI you are the face of the AI engineering team, representing their work, and unblocking the team when problems arise. You manage a highly skilled team of experts and help in the growth of their careers. You drive action and alignment by cultivating relationships with senior management and partnerships with product management and design leaders.
You bring a deep understanding and expertise in digital transformation opportunities, supported by thought leadership in advanced technologies such as Generative AI, ML, Advanced Analytics and App Modernization. You hold your team accountable to high standards and support your team to achieve these standards.

Your responsibilities and decisions:

• Technical Leadership & Strategy: 

  • Define Taxfix AI strategy and champion the adoption of AI/ML technologies and practices across the company

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and high-quality software applications that leverage AI/ML technologies to enable customer value, business outcomes, foster innovation, and enable efficiency across the organization

  • Drive the end-to-end solution development lifecycle, from requirements gathering, ideation, quick prototyping to implementation and technical validation

  • Provide technical leadership, drive technical excellence and innovation, ensure the adoption of best practices and cutting-edge technologies, services and tools and measure the impact of these decisions

  • Collaborate with our production teams to develop scalable, deployable and reusable models and data sets

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements and solutions

  • Conduct research, stay current with the latest developments in new technologies, latest industry trends and bring ideas and insights to the team to drive innovation

• Team Management & Development: 

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of AI/ML engineers and MLOps and data scientists. 

  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement. 

  • Ensure team alignment with the company's goals and objectives.

  • Provide ongoing feedback that helps direct reports improve their performance. Promote a positive environment across the organization by modeling behavior that promotes high morale

  • Oversee the professional development and growth of the engineering team, identifying development and growth opportunities for the people on the team

• Architecture & Design: Oversee the architecture and design of solutions, ensure velocity, reliability, scalability security and cost efficiency. Work closely with Product and Engineering leadership to find opportunities to leverage big data and advanced technologies to solve customers problems and align technical solutions with customers needs

• Quality, Governance & Performance: Establish and enforce data quality and governance standards and best practices for the development and operation of data products and models. Ensure our data products meets performance benchmarks and provides a seamless and reliable experience to our customers. Define and track Key Performance Indicators to drive continuous improvement.

• Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Management, Platform engineering, Finance and Operations to ensure seamless data products lifecycle management from concept to deployment and operation. Communicate technical data strategies, insights and outcomes to stakeholders at all levels, including non-technical audiences

Your profile:

• 8+ years technical engineering experience

• 4+ years of experience in technical leadership

• Proven track record in deploying to and running AI/ML models in production

• Familiarity with large language models (LLM), prompt engineering and retrieval augmented generation (RAG) architectures

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, leveraging data and metrics to develop informed business cases

• Background in probability, statistics, and optimization algorithms

• Excellent project management and organizational skills

• Masters Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline

• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
