Hi! 👋 I’m Val Bartlett, VP of Sales at TLDR.

If you’re reading this, you’re someone who knows what it takes to drive account retention and build relationships that matter. We're looking for an Account Lead to guide and support TLDR’s Account Management efforts while driving retention, engagement, and growth within our key accounts. In this player/coach role you'll combine direct client relationship management with mentorship, helping shape the success of our Account Managers while delivering exceptional value to our clients. You'll be working directly with me as we shape how TLDR partners with the biggest names in tech and media.

TLDR is a collective of technical newsletters on startups, software engineering, AI, cybersecurity, marketing, product management, and more, with over 5 million subscribers.

Our mission is to build the paper of record for technical fields, the trusted source that people who work in tech rely on to inform them about important trends and developments.

About the role

  • Manage a portfolio of key accounts, building strong relationships, overseeing campaign execution, and driving retention and growth with enterprise companies and marketing agencies

  • Mentor and support the development of the Account Management team through 1:1s, coaching sessions, and ongoing guidance to improve their individual performance, client strategies, and process improvements

  • Be the face of TLDR for high-value clients, ensuring their needs are met and delivering a seamless experience

  • Ensure all campaigns run smoothly from onboarding through completion, aligning with client goals and TLDR’s standards of excellence

  • Identify opportunities for upselling and expanding client relationships by demonstrating the value of additional TLDR services

  • Guide the team in monitoring campaign performance and delivering insights to clients, while also conducting your own reporting for assigned accounts

  • Work closely with Sales, Operations, and Creative teams to address client needs and drive account success

  • Industry Expertise: Stay informed about media and advertising trends to ensure clients receive proactive and innovative recommendations

About You

  • 3+ years experience in Account Management or a related client-facing role, in the media or advertising industry

  • Demonstrated ability to mentor or lead others, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment

  • Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills with the ability to handle complex client scenarios

  • Comfortable working across teams to deliver results for clients and improve internal processes

  • High EQ with a focus on empathy, active listening, and creating win-win solutions

  • Thrive in a fast-paced, asynchronous environment with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

You're not a good fit for this role if you:

  • Haven't worked in media/advertising industry

  • Rely on lots of direction for how to drive retention with clients

  • Enjoy large teams and that "in-person group feeling" at work

  • Prefer to have a manager give you clear instructions or a target account list each day

  • Don't have much knowledge or experience of the tech ecosystem
