Job Description

We are looking for a People Advisor, with previous experience gained in a fast-paced environment, ideally within the E-commerce/Tech or Customer Contact Services environment. This role has been newly created to support our Customer Services and Operations teams in Edinburgh and some of our Tech team (mainly based in London). This mix of  functions  will give a really exciting variety of teams to partner with and develop your business partnering career. This is an incredible opportunity to take that next step in your career and work with a brilliant team of business partners and wider people team who will support you and give you space to really bring value in your role.

This position will sit within the People Team and be based in our Edinburgh Office, business partnering and supporting across the Edinburgh and London Offices within Trainline; with a secondary focus supporting our People Operations Team with any local support.

The skill set for success in this role is a professional, pragmatic, and customer-focused HR generalist, with a strong background working on Employee Relations in a complex and fast- paced environment. The pace at Trainline is incredibly exciting but it can be challenging so we really need someone that has experience working in a similar environment. We would also expect the successful candidate to have a passion to see value-add projects through from conception to delivery, being proactive and autonomous along the way and really embracing our one team mentality at Trainline.

Business Partnering

  • First point of contact for each of the employee lifecycle touch points across the functions that you support individually and supporting the Senior Business Partners with appropriate cases in their functions.
  • Being a partner to the people managers that you work with, with a real understanding of legal obligations and practical application, but also a commercial lens on what works for the specific team you are working with.
  • Having a very hands-on approach to get under the surface of your area and bring proactive ideas for how you support your managers. Thinking outside the box and challenging the norm, while bringing your managers on the journey.
  • Support and advise managers on a variety of employee relations cases (for example performance management, redundancy, disciplinary, grievance and appeal meetings); escalating highly complex cases as required
  • Act as first line of support for dealing with and responding to queries for your function managers (for example employment law, flexible working, leavers, maternity, paternity, grievances, disciplinaries and performance management)
  • Coach People Managers through effective performance review cycles, and training on the system used where appropriate
  • Proactively manage long-term or repetitive absence including occupational health assessments and group income protection policy cases.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the HR function – owning and contributing to the wider team projects and identifying areas for improvement in your areas.
  • Driving engagement across your areas and the Edinburgh Office, working with the engagement committees and Leadership Team.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships to support all stakeholders

People Operations Support

  • Carry out exit interviews where we have leavers identified in the Edinburgh Office, sharing insights with other business partners and identifying trends across the company with the wider People Operations Team.
  • Where we have new starters in Edinburgh, support with ensuring their first morning onboarding takes place smoothly by making sure they are in the right place at the right time (this will be ad hoc, we don’t have new starters every week).
  • Understanding of the systems we use for performance management, engagement surveys, HRIS and L&D to help with first line questions and administration.
  • Ad hoc projects that support the wider people team.

Qualifications

We’re looking for a team player with a growth mindset and a passion for People, you will have experience in a HR/People team either business partnering or in an operational role. You'll be a self-starter with a helpful, people-orientated demeanour who is always willing to support our Trainliners. Super-strong organisation and interpersonal skills are essential, and you’ll also bring the ability to work at pace and with agility.

We pride ourselves on being a high performing team and want Trainliners to have those same high standards. In return we will provide a supportive environment with endless possibilities for development and growth in an extremely fast paced environment. If you are pro-active, curious, amazing at building relationships and ready to take the next step in your career then this role is for you.
