Summary

The Project Engineer is a key role, responsible for planning, designing, and overseeing geotechnical engineering projects. The role will work on site investigations, analyze soil, and rock properties and provide recommendations of construction projects based on their findings.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

• Required to drive, stand, walk, use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, talk, and hear. Body motions and movements include: bending, twisting, reaching, stooping, pulling, kneeling, lifting, carrying, and pushing.

• Lifting and/or moving up to ten pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five pounds.

• This job is in Florida, with exposure to intense sun, intense heat, humidity, rain, thunderstorms, and other adverse weather conditions.

• Job site conditions may or may not be accessible by vehicle and can include wetlands, swamps, grasslands, and fields with uneven surfaces, sand, brush, and other natural and man-made obstacles.

• This job is primarily and regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and construction sites where the noise level is usually moderate to loud.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conducting geotechnical site investigations including soil and rock sampling, borehole logging and field testing and present their findings to interdisciplinary teams
  • Evaluating and analyzing geological and geotechnical conditions to assess risks and opportunities for construction projects
  • Managing geotechnical aspects of projects, such as project execution, timelines, and milestones including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Coordinating with clients, contractors and regulatory agencies to ensure project requirements, objectives, and constraints are met
  • Communicating project status, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders effectively
  • Conducting feasibility studies, risk assessments and implement quality assurance processes to identify potential challenges, develop mitigation strategies and ensuring deliverables meet quality standards and client expectations
  • Coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to procure materials and services
  • Preparing technical reports and documentation detailing analysis, findings, and recommendations
  • Fostering positive relationships with clients and stakeholders to enhance satisfaction and promote future collaborations
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards
  • Staying updated on industry trends, technologies, and innovations to enhance project delivery and efficiency
  • Coordinating and cooperate with lab and field departments
  • Preparing cost estimates, proposals, and invoices
  • Performing any other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including project management and field experience
  • Must have at least 1-3 years of experience of geotechnical engineering in consulting industry
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, ground improvement techniques, and applicable codes and standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical report writing and client interactions
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, propose innovative solutions, and make informed decisions under pressure
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment with project managers, engineers, and field technicians
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record (in accordance with our Driver’s License and Motor Vehicle Record Check Criteria)
  • Ability to pass a background check screening in accordance with Florida’s Jessica Lunsford Act (or equivalent state classification). 


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced knowledge of regional geology and soil types
  • Familiarity with environmental and regulatory considerations in geotechnical projects
  • Project management experience, including budget management, scheduling, and resource allocation
  • Location: Office, field sites, and construction environments as required
  • Ability to conduct site inspections, including walking on uneven terrain and occasionally lifting field equipment
  • Occasional travel to project sites may be required
