Marketing & Communications Specialist

The Virginia Society of CPAs (VSCPA), a professional state association located in Richmond, Va., seeks a marketing and communications specialist with 3–5 years of experience. This individual will play a crucial role in developing and executing comprehensive marketing for member programs and learning opportunities to achieve VSCPA revenue and attendance goals. The ideal candidate is an advanced writer with a proven ability to craft compelling copy across multiple platforms. Exceptional marketing, copywriting and editing skills are essential for success in this role. This position is an important part of the VSCPA’s marketing and communications team that supports our mission to help our nearly 12,000 members thrive. Reports to our marketing director. We offer a hybrid work environment and will consider remote candidates residing in the Eastern Time Zone. 

About the role

  • Develops and implements comprehensive marketing for member programs and learning opportunities to meet VSCPA revenue, attendance and strategic goals.  
  • Writes clear, compelling copy for emails, website, social media and other media, ensuring consistency with VSCPA brand voice and style. 
  • Writes, schedules and monitors social media across platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X and YouTube) and tracks engagement to enhance the VSCPA’s digital presence. 
  • Writes, edits and implements digital communications, including e-newsletters. 
  • Writes and edits copy as needed for the VSCPA’s member magazine. 
  • Maintains organized marketing plans and timelines for campaigns for optimal engagement and results. 
  • Creates basic graphics for member programs and learning marketing initiatives. 
  • Supports fundraising, student/educator, partnership and sponsorship marketing. 
  • Coordinates printing and mail shop services for direct mail. 
  • Coordinates printing of VSCPA staff business cards, nametags, stationery and other items. 
  • Collaborates with VSCPA staff and members on marketing and communications strategies. 
  • Works closely with marketing director on the strategic and creative direction of marketing and communications campaigns. 
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field, along with 3–5 years of professional experience; Experience in associations/nonprofits is a plus.  
  • You have exceptional copywriting and editing skills and can craft compelling copy for a variety of platforms including email, website and social media. 
  • You have a strong understanding of marketing strategies, branding and audience engagement techniques. 
  • You excel at building relationships and collaborating with internal teams to achieve shared goals. 
  • You are highly self-motivated, are a proactive problem solver and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.  
  • You are an excellent project manager, able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, pay close attention to detail and consistently meet deadlines. 
  • You are a compelling and clear communicator — both in writing and verbally.  
  • You’re technologically savvy and energized by using tools like Microsoft Office 365, digital marketing platforms, databases and content management systems to meet challenges and provide solutions. 
  • You enjoy monitoring trends, collecting and analyzing data to inform marketing strategies and are motivated to test/try new ideas.
