We are seeking a veteran estate planner with a specialty in wealth transfer and tax planning for ultra high net worth clients to join our team asHead of Private Client Initiatives, reporting to the Chief Legal Officer and working closely with our customers, product team and sales team. You will play a crucial role in serving as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert developing and maintaining the highest quality software solutions for ultra high net worth families and their team of advisors and fiduciaries. You should have an intimate knowledge of practicing in a law firm, working on some of the most complex estate planning techniques, and be the primary liaison between wealth.com and some of our most important customer relationships. You should also understand the intricacies of working in a fast-paced startup environment, especially working with product and engineering teams, and be willing to teach legal and non-legal personnel about complex estate planning topics.  This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing company and work cross-functionally with various departments to provide practical legal guidance and to develop an exciting software solution that will move the estate planning industry into the modern age.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop software tools for ultra high net worth wealth transfer and tax planning, including data capture, visualization and reporting, and tax projections 
  • Service and protect our most important customer relationships
  • Lead and standardize the review process for estate planning and other documents submitted by customers
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert to the company
  • Support the company’s sales and marketing efforts, including attending conferences, trade shows, and other in-person events 
  • Stay up-to-date on laws and regulations about private wealth management, estate planning and tax-driven planning to help Wealth adapt to, and capitalize on, the changing legal landscape
  • As the need arises, support the Chief Legal Officer to address legal risk in business-centric decisions, including strategic projects, contract negotiations, and product risk management


Qualifications:
  • Partner or equivalent title at Am Law 200 Law Firm in private client or equivalent group
  • J.D. degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school
  • Active law license in at least one U.S. state, in good standing  
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a practicing attorney
  • Experience with cross-border estate planning preferred, but not required
  • Strong record of business development
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial and problem-solving mindset with a passion for new areas of business and technology development in fintech and estate planning
  • Ability to lead projects as a resourceful and execution-oriented self-starter, to work with lean teams and limited resources, and to extend help to team members
  • Excellent judgment and aptitude for optimization given ambiguous and imperfect information
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with an impressive ability to breakdown and articulate complex legal considerations in layman terms
  • Ability to collaborate with and build strong relationships across departments
  • Willingness to travel 3 to 4 times a year to attend in-person events (U.S. only)
