Adjunct Faculty, Culinary Arts

Overview / Job Summary:

The Adjunct Faculty for Culinary Arts at WSU Tech is responsible for providing engaging instruction and support to students in various culinary courses. This role emphasizes hands-on learning, culinary techniques, and industry standards to prepare students for careers in the culinary field. As an adjunct instructor, you will have the opportunity to inspire the next generation of culinary professionals while fostering a creative and dynamic learning environment.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and upload an appropriate course syllabus for each course taught within the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Conduct engaging classroom lectures and hands-on practical demonstrations in culinary techniques, safety protocols, and industry practices.
  • Keep students informed about course objectives, requirements, evaluation criteria, and attendance policies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student progress, grades, and attendance.
  • Evaluate students' performance through assessments, practical exams, and regular feedback and provide timely communication to students regarding their progress.

Education:

  • Associate degree required.

Experience & Skills Needed:

  • Minimum 5 years’ food service management experience or related experience in the field of culinary arts and/or food sciences required.
  • Current ServSafe Manager’s Certificate preferred. Must obtain within 3 months of hire, required.
  • Certified Culinary Educator with ACF or Certified Executive Chef, preferred.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in adult education preferred, with pre-planning course work.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and interpersonal skills – must be able to work with students, technical and administrative personnel in a pleasant, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills where you can work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to quickly learn & use personal computer and various software programs utilized daily in a teaching environment, strong Microsoft Office skills. 
  • Comfortable with course delivery method being hybrid as needed.
