This role provides leadership to the Heart and Vascular Institute and Children’s Hospital in all facets of cardiac noninvasive imaging as well as local and statewide initiatives, and takes direction of the AVP of HVI and Children’s Hospital and the Physician Director of the Imaging Innovation Center. This role leads strategic development of noninvasive cardiac imaging in both adult and pediatric practice within the WVU Medicine Enterprise. This role is responsible for defining expected standards for the noninvasive imaging systems in conjunction with the AVP of HVI and Children’s Hospital and the Manager of Cardiac Vascular Services-Non Invasive. This role will direct education and training in collaboration with local and statewide initiatives for noninvasive imaging and conduct research as defined via strategy. Provide direction and support to newly established WVU Medicine hospitals and clinics with imaging services. This role will work to standardize process/protocols including but not limited to equipment/software purchases, protocols, and accreditation for the imaging departments of WVU Medicine.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Master’s Degree AND five (5) years’ experience in Echocardiography Leadership OR Bachelor’s Degree and seven (7) years of direct leadership experience developing and Managing Adult and Pediatric Imaging services OR Associate’s Degree AND fifteen (15) years of direct leadership experience developing and managing Adult and Pediatric imaging services.

2. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer must be obtained within one (1) year of hire date.

1. Doctorate of Medicine or PhD

EXPERIENCE:

1. Four years management experience

2. Published research articles

3. Instructor and/or Adjunct Faculty Medical Sonography

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.

1. Develops strategic direction of the Imaging Innovation center in conjunction with the HVI and Children’s Hospital Administration and provides leadership, direction, and education to imaging staff in conjunction with noninvasive manager.

2. Ensures expected standards are met with HVI Noninvasive Imaging System and processes. Assures the optimum performance of medical imaging and interpretation services in accordance with the service and educational missions of the institution. Identifies device trial opportunities and collaborates with industry professionals for participation.

3. Develops efficient reporting, compliance, and educational architecture for local and statewide initiatives.

4. Plans, organizes, and develops annual operating and capital budget.

5. Develops annual goals to support noninvasive imaging and the Imaging Innovation Center.

6. Coordinates resources to achieve the goals to ensure efficient and effective operations for noninvasive imaging in HVI and Children’s Hospital, and the Imaging Innovation Center.

7. Collaborates with the Physician Director of the Imaging Innovation Center, as well as administrative leadership to develop, implement and monitor strategic plans and operation/financial performance including educational programs internally, locally, and statewide.

8. Facilitates communication between investigators and statisticians in order to obtain relevant research data.  Assists providers with protocol development when necessary.

9. Facilitates and compiles research data, statistics, and drafts/writes research articles for review as appropriate.

10. Prepares research articles for submission to publications as appropriate.

11. Establishes and ensures effective reporting and communications between program components, sites, and teams.

12. Directs regularly scheduled reporting to program leadership, sponsors, and program team of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and Children’s Hospital.

13. Directs effective utilization of the department’s resources including staffing, space, and budgets. Monitors and is responsible for the budgetary performance of the clinical research components of the department and communicates the same to departmental administration.

14. Prepares grant applications suitable for submission to funding agencies as appropriate.

15. Directs regularly scheduled reporting to program leadership, sponsors, and program team of the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and Children’s Hospital.

16. Conducts patient and lab research as directed by the Director of Imaging Innovation Center.

17. Attends educational conferences and interacts with associated vendors to acquire knowledge and to keep informed regarding new technology available.

18. Enforces hospital and departmental policies and ensures that staff are meeting the established standards of practice. Monitors staff satisfaction and takes appropriate corrective action in conjunction with Manager of Non Invasive Imaging

19. Works with outreach hospitals and clinics to identify needs and opportunities to standardize and improve processes.

20. Participate in operational meetings of WVU Medicine Outreach hospitals to provide feedback in compliance, technology, and education.

21. Assist outreach hospitals/clinics with imaging software purchases and/or upgrades to align with the Enterprise for consistency and pricing.

22. Enhance the organization’s position in the market with regard to the visibility and usage of the cardiovascular and imaging service lines.

23. Serve as a liaison to adult and pediatric cardiovascular physicians and practices that utilize HVI and Children’s Hospital services.

24. Develop and sustain physician relationships to increase involvement and recruitment of community referring physicians.

25. Provide matrix oversight of all hospital departments and services that impact the quality and cost efficiency of the cardiovascular service line.

26. Utilize Lean principles in all facets of the operations as necessary to continuously improve the value to the patient.

27. Support the attainment of SLA metrics.
