Summary:

As a Buyer you will coordinate activities involved with procuring good and services such as raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, supplies, and advertising for the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Typically buys complex type items.
  • Annual purchases $10 million and up. 
  • Managers multiple commodities and major accounts. 
  • Managers projects and implementations. 
  • Plans to minimize costs on cutover projects. 
  • Arranges and participates in conferences between suppliers and engineers, inspectors, and other company personnel to facilitate material inspection, substitution, standardization, rework, salvage, utilization, and economical procurement of parts and equipment.
  • Consults with engineering personnel to establish performance criteria and specifications for manufacturing and testing.
  • Works with suppliers’ base to establish programs to increase efficiencies and reduce overall costs.
  • Analyzes technical data, designs, preliminary specifications, supplier facilities, and availability of parts and equipment to ensure quality, delivery, and pricing standards are met.
  • Monitors market trends for pricing and availability of commodity type products.
  • Participates on R&D projects. 
  • Participates and leads quality/suppliers’ surveys.

    • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • SOFTWARE SKILLS
    • Excel skills are a must.
  • OTHER SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Up to 10% of travel may be required.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • CPM or CPSM certified, Professional in Supply Chain Management, Certification in Purchasing Management desired.
