Vice President of Product

About AdvocateMH

AdvocateMH is an early-stage, VC-backed, public benefit corporation committed to transforming mental health care through a precision-based approach to triage. We help individuals navigate the complex behavioral health landscape by connecting them to the right care at the right time, whether it be therapy, psychiatry, peer support, or other resources. Our unique model leverages both cutting-edge technology (generative AI, machine learning) and human relationships to prioritize clinical quality and patient experience, making effective mental healthcare more accessible to all.

Founded in Boston by serial entrepreneurs who have collectively founded 9 companies and raised more than $400M in venture capital, AdvocateMH is a rapidly growing health-tech company that closed a highly oversubscribed $6.2M seed round in January 2025. We're building a high-performance team to solve one of healthcare’s most urgent and complex problems.

About the Role

We’re looking for a VP of Product who’s ready to take the next big step in their career - someone who has led product and cross-functional teams, but still loves getting their hands dirty. This role is a unique opportunity to lead across product, engineering, and data at a mission-driven company where technology is core to the strategy.

We need a player-coach. Someone who wants to drive vision, but also write specs, pressure test decisions, jump into architecture discussions, and help the team execute at a high level. This person will partner closely with our founders, clinical leadership, and early team to translate an ambitious vision into elegant, scalable, and effective product experiences.

Why Join Advocate MH

  • Product-Led DNA: We believe an amazing product - grounded in tech but built with empathy - is key to transforming mental health navigation at scale.

  • Foundational Impact: Help define our product, team, and culture from the ground up. This is a critical early leadership role with room to grow.

  • High Ownership, High Craft: You’ll own the big picture and still be close to the work.

  • Meaningful Problems: Work at the intersection of clinical complexity, behavioral health workflows, and applied AI - where product excellence truly matters.

  • Mission-Driven Team: Join experienced founders, operators, and clinicians building something that’s urgently needed and deeply impactful.

Responsibilities

  • Own the Product Function: Set direction, prioritize what matters, and drive execution across the full product lifecycle. Create alignment across business, clinical, and tech.

  • Lead with Context: Build and lead a high-performing, cross-functional team across product, engineering, and data. Foster clarity, accountability, and momentum.

  • Roll Up Your Sleeves: Write product specs, review designs, test prototypes, support delivery - expect to spend 50%+ of your time in IC work.

  • Architect for Scale: Work closely with engineering on system architecture, data infrastructure, and LLM integrations to ensure we’re building the right things the right way.

  • Design with Clinicians and Users: Deeply understand the needs of patients, providers, and partners. Build products that are trusted, effective, and actually used.

  • Drive Outcomes: Define what success looks like and help the team ship work that moves us toward measurable impact.

  • Think Systems: Connect dots across the platform, user journey, and clinical ecosystem. Build reusable frameworks that help us move fast and scale well.

  • Be a Culture Carrier: Always prioritize patients first. Lead by example, build trust, and set a tone of excellence, curiosity, and bias for action.

  • Operate with Integrity and Judgment: Balance input from leadership, users, and clinical teams, and push back when needed. You bring clarity, not consensus, and prioritize what’s right for the product and our mission.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in product development, with 3+ years leading product or technical teams.

  • Strong technical fluency - you’ve worked closely with engineering and data teams and understand modern software development practices.

  • Proven ability to ship high-impact, user-centered products, ideally in domains with complexity and real-world consequences.

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams through ambiguity, delivering clarity and momentum as you go.

  • Effective communicator who can toggle between strategy and execution.

  • Deep curiosity and user empathy, especially in healthcare, mental health, or complex human-centered systems.

  • Strong IC chops - you still like to write, build, test, and improve.

  • Excited by fast-moving environments, tight feedback loops, and high expectations.

  • Comfortable navigating senior leadership discussions and advocating for product decisions that serve long-term value - even when it requires saying no or challenging direction.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Background in healthcare, health tech, or mental health.

  • Experience working with or managing data science, data engineering, or LLM/AI teams.

  • Hands-on experience in engineering or data earlier in your career.

  • Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems, FHIR, or healthcare data standards.

  • Experience with regulated or operationally complex environments.
