If you share our passion for creating an airline people love, we want to hear from you.Role Summary:The MD, Financial Accounting & Reporting sets the long-term strategy and oversees the financial performance of Alaska’s accounting and reporting functions, including financial accounting, financial reporting, SOX program administration, Mexico finance, and loyalty and partnership finance team. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders that provides accurate, timely and insightful financial information and solutions. As a senior leader in the finance organization, the MD, Financial Accounting & Reporting facilitates and drives optimal decision making, performance, and prioritization across the organization.Key Duties:• Leads accounting team through proactive performance management and ongoing feedback, fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning• Establishes strategic goals for accounting and finance teams to deliver improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy of financial accounting and reporting, including process modernization, standardization, and rationalization.• Leads accounting and finance teams to utilize financial systems and tools to streamline reporting and analyses.• Drives optimal performance within the accounting and finance teams by establishing best-in-class practices and a culture of continuous improvement.• Drives optimized decision making across the company by delivering financial insights, education, and strategic recommendations to peers and leaders.• Ensures that accounting policies and procedures are well understood and complied with by finance teams and across the organization.• Oversees timely and accurate close and consolidation.• Oversees timely and accurate preparation and filing of SEC filings including quarterly, annual, and periodic reports (10-Q, 10-K, and 8-K)• Provide subject matter expertise on U.S. GAAP accounting and control guidance to finance teams and across the organization.• Provide effective direction and oversight for handling of significant and unusual transactions, providing thought leadership related to the accounting impacts of transactions and scenario analysis.• Provides strategic oversight and support to internal controls and compliance programs.• Serves as key point of contact for external audit, facilitating timely resolution of audit questions and findings.• Drives strategic finance initiatives, including merger integration efforts, capital allocation and high impact projects.• Supports investor communications and presentations as needed.• Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and functions.• Develops guidelines, processes, and procedures for teams with leaders, through a team.• Identifies and creates opportunities for the enterprise to simplify our business, increase productivity, and reduce costs by networking with leaders and understanding current projects.• Partners to identify methods to measure process performance and implement management systems for sustainability.• Assists the Air Group Controller in all aspects related to controller duties.Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills:Required:• 10 years of experience in financial reporting and accounting including progressive experience in investor relations, or finance.• 5 years of people leadership experience.• Bachelor’s degree with a focus in accounting, business administration or related field, or willingness to attain a bachelor’s degree within six years of start date.• Demonstrated financial acumen skills and understanding of accounting, financial analysis, and valuation.• Ability to synthesize information in clear and simple manner and the ability to translate and effectively communicate analytical data to non- technical professionals.• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.• Strong drive to deliver results with speed and quality, while managing to a budget.• Outstanding verbal and written skills, with the ability to present data and conclusions in an organized, concise manner at all levels throughout the company.• High school diploma or equivalent.• Minimum age of 18.• Must be authorized to work in the U.S.Preferred:• Master of Business Administration degree.• Commercial airline experience.Job-Specific Leadership Expectations:• Embody our values to own safety, do the right thing, be kind-hearted, deliver performance and be remarkable.• Strong ability to influence and collaborate with cross-functional peers and senior leaders to align on a vision, strategic initiatives, and execution. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
