Hi 👋 I’m Stephan

I’m Stephan, leading product design at Altura. I joined Altura at the cusp of its takeoff and it has been an incredible experience. Now, I’m extending the same opportunity to you.

As a generalist designer, I’ve always found the greatest reward not just in the design artifacts I create, but in the journey of building products and seeing them come to life in the hands of users. Being pigeonholed into a certain set of specific tasks never really suited me. In the end my thinking has always been to do “whatever works”. That kind of desire for flexibility and responsibility led me to join Altura.

For me, ideas start on a scratchpad or whiteboard, evolve into prototypes through sessions with users and engineers, and take shape in Figma to guide decisions. Sometimes, quick coded prototypes help refine the solution, which continues to evolve during development until it reaches our customers. At Altura, you’ll have the chance to do the same.

Why is Altura hiring a Senior Product Designer?

As the scope has grown, so have our challenges. Quite frankly, we have plenty of product opportunities to expand on, both in breadth and depth. I am excited to hire a design co-partner to really drive the product forward. Joining Altura means playing a key role in shaping the company’s future and revolutionizing the bid and tendering process.

While every designer can design in Figma, you’ll be given free reign to really drive the product forward. Working closely with your team of product owners, customer success, sales, engineers (hell the entire company) is a non-negotiable.

This is a senior-level role, so we require at least 5 years of experience as a product designer, with proven records of delivering SaaS solutions.

Example projects that you will work on (and probably you have too):

• Transitioning to a AI-native solution → Meaning building a product foundation for our own AI model to learn, evolve, and develop from.

• Rethink the entire interaction model for Bid management. If you had a cart blanche, how would you go about filling it?

• Having spent the last years building an E2E solution within the Bid management process, we are looking forward to really empower users to derive more value from our platform.

• By engaging daily with customers, designed and helped deliver a tender analysis tooling (think analysing hundreds of pdfs and excel sheets) by leveraging state of the art AI solutions, that saves users days in work time.

• Building a set of flexible, composable components for our design system that will allow for best in class developer experience.

What to expect (and what not to):

• This position offers the chance to contribute to highly visible and impactful projects. You’ll deliver solutions that users will interact with directly, and your goal will be to ensure these solutions are well executed but also strategically impactful.

• Our brand is rooted in a deep empathy for our users and customers. Engaging regularly with users, addressing their needs, and translating insights into impactful solutions is not just encouraged – it’s expected. In this role, you’ll conduct user research and usability testing to validate your ideas and ensure the best outcomes.

• You’ll work closely with engineers and product leadership to develop a cohesive design vision and strategy. Beyond strategy, you’ll execute on this vision by delivering innovative solutions that uncover opportunities to enhance the end-to-end bid management workflow.

• We don’t have a pixel perfect product design process. You will need to contribute to it. Our input in the product development process is not just valued, it's expected.

• Empower engineers to have ownership and autonomy over projects. We as product designers thrive in deeply understanding problems and coming up w clever solutions. It is part of your job to develop that know-how within the teams.

• You feel comfortable contributing and evolving our design system.

• Though we aspire to become a data-informed company, we are not there yet. You are expected to contribute to it.

• We work with (but not only) Figma, amongst other tools.

You Have:

• Must have demonstrated experience designing SaaS software that is easy to use and maintain.

• Familiarity with designing holistic, complete workflows, and larger design visions or North Star Vision Designs.

• Experience fostering collaboration across multiple product teams and stakeholders.

• Experience conducting your own research with a variety of methods, and strong decision-making skills for when to do research.

• Strong visual design skills with the ability to balance leveraging the design system and recognizing when a unique component is needed.

• Nice to have: an interest in programming languages and the fundamentals of coding is a plus.

We developed an end-to-end platform that enables bid teams to manage and win complex bids, both in the public and private sectors. We use artificial intelligence to connect bid teams to company resources, automate the bidding process and assist proactively with tasks and insights.

In 2022, we launched Altura. Since then, things have taken off. Our team has grown from 8 to 40 people, and the momentum is still going strong.
