Backend Software Engineer - Product Quality (Remote across ANZ)

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Designing, prototyping, and implementing systems to manage features via CRUD-like operations, which are then made available in the data warehouse.
  • Collaborating with teams across the group to ensure our new service integrates smoothly with existing services used by the platform.
  • Partnering with platform teams to ensure their insights are accurately represented and displayed in our platform.
  • Leading reviews and creating pathways that help teams improve the overall quality of Canva over time.

You're probably a match if you have

  • Commercial experience in a software development environment
  • Extensive experience with Java, distributed systems and relational databases
  • Ability to write performant, reusable code, including appropriate testing
  • Working collaboratively with team members and communicating effectively
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience working with AWS
  • Background in data analytics and/or product measurements
  • Experience in full-stack development

About the team

The Product Insights Enablement group is on a mission to propel Canva’s growth by providing a unified platform to help teams ship confidently and measure outcomes. We are building a centralised home for all product insights so that teams act swiftly and decisively to make positive changes to the product.

We plan to tackle our mission in two steps. Step one is implementing a streamlined measurement process so that Canvanauts have the insight to decide if they should ship a change. Step two is to continuously feed insights to teams so they can make strategic decisions about what to focus on next.

The Product Quality team is working to develop new tools, frameworks, and processes to continuously report on the quality of Canva’s features. These tools will surface critical platform metrics in a single, consistent location so that all teams can make well-informed, quicker data-driven strategic decisions.

About the role

We are looking for engineers with an interest in building tools that help teams across Canva identify opportunities to improve the quality of their features. You will be building backend services to manage product definitions, and connecting these definitions to information stored in the data warehouse to surface platform insights in a new UI. This work is critical for ensuring product teams and leaders are making informed strategic decisions about what Canva should work on next.

What's in it for you?

Achieving our crazy big goals motivates us to work hard - and we do - but you'll experience lots of moments of magic, connectivity and fun woven throughout life at Canva, too. We also offer a range of benefits to set you up for every success in and outside of work.

Here's a taste of what's on offer:

  • Equity packages - we want our success to be yours too
  • Inclusive parental leave policy that supports all parents & carers
  • An annual Vibe & Thrive allowance to support your wellbeing, social connection, office setup & more
  • Flexible leave options that empower you to be a force for good, take time to recharge and supports you personally
