Job Description

The role

As our value increases, so does our need for extraordinary people. Technical writers at Checkout.com help build the next generation of financial products and online payment solutions through clear, consistent, and high-quality technical documentation.

You’ll become part of a dynamic and expanding team of Technical Writers, contributing to a diverse range of impactful products. Our team uses technical documentation to constantly advocate for our users' success, across platforms such as Checkout.com Documentation, our Merchant Support site, and our API reference.

You’ll collaborate closely with team members of varying seniority at the intersection of diverse functions including Design, Product, User Research, and Engineering!

The team

We are more than 35 people across Product Design, User Research, Technical Writing, Content Design, and Design Operations.

Hybrid Working Model: All of our offices globally are going 3 times per week onsite (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday). We’ve worked towards enabling teams to work collaboratively in the same space, at the same time that we build globally and for scale. During your days at the office, we offer amazing snacks, breakfast and lunch options in all of our locations.

The first 6 months

  • Month 1 - you’re familiar with the Checkout.com style guide, content patterns, and tone of voice and can see how and when to apply them. You’re familiar with our tooling and main documentation repository structures and are comfortable fixing minor issues across documentation pages. You’ve met the team and your core partners, designers, engineers, researchers, and product managers. You’re developing an understanding of our product family and our competitive environment.

  • Month 2 - you’re familiar with the API reference repository structure and can comfortably make changes to the API reference. You are familiar with our Zendesk implementation and are comfortable making minor Support article edits. You’re also regularly picking up new work from our team’s backlog and have begun tackling more complex projects scoped by other members of the team. You’re starting to identify areas for content improvement in your space.

  • Months 3 and 4 - You’re comfortable with the team processes and our ways of working. You’re independently documenting new features. You’re also regularly reviewing contributions to the documentation from other writers and other internal contributors. You’re defining technical documentation strategies and owning future work for smaller projects. You’re regularly participating in and contributing to technical content reviews. You are proactively identifying Support article opportunities and are regularly contributing articles to the Support site.

  • Month 5 - you’re noticeably more comfortable discussing Checkout.com’s products and advocating for our users. You understand how our products relate to each other. You’re identifying areas of improvement for ways of working in the team and can articulate priorities and trade-offs. You have taken ownership of all the content types in your Product area and are delivering outcomes that uplift the overall Checkout.com experience

  • Month 6 - you’re fully integrated into the team and are seen as articulate and knowledgeable in your discipline. You have a solid understanding of Checkout.com as a company, its products, and how they interact. You can define a technical documentation strategy for larger projects. You are able to mentor and assist more junior team members.
