As a Cloud Platform Engineer - Kubernetes Specialist, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the stability, scalability, and performance of our cloud infrastructure while working in a highly collaborative and innovative environment.


What Success Looks Like


In 3 months:


- Deep Kubernetes Proficiency:

- Demonstrates a strong understanding of Kubernetes concepts, components, and architecture

- Can confidently deploy, manage, and scale applications using ArgoCD/Helm

- Effective Problem Solving:

- Able to troubleshoot and resolve common Kubernetes-related issues quickly

- Contributes to improving the stability and reliability of Kubernetes clusters

- Collaboration and Communication:

- Successfully collaborates with cross-functional teams, providing Kubernetes expertise

- Shares knowledge through documentation and team discussions

- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Mastery:

- Utilizes tools like Crossplane or ArgoCD to define and manage Kubernetesinfrastructure, both AWS and Kubernetes resources

- Understands and implements best practices for versioning and maintaining IaC


In 6 months:


- Advanced Deployment Strategies:

- Implements advanced deployment patterns like blue-green, canary, and rolling updates

- Integrates CI/CD pipelines with Kubernetes deployments for automated releases

- Optimized Cluster Performance:

- Implements strategies for efficient resource utilization, reducing costs where possible

- Security and Compliance:

- Implements best practices for securing Kubernetes clusters and workloads

- Maintains awareness of industry compliance standards and ensures clusters adhere to them


In 12 months:


- Scalable and Resilient Architectures:

- Designs and implements highly available and resilient Kubernetes architectures.

- Automation and Tooling:

- Develops custom automation scripts and tools to streamline Kubernetes operations.

- Identifies opportunities to leverage Kubernetes Operators for managing complex applications.

- Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

- Stays updated with the latest Kubernetes trends, evaluating, and adopting new technologies.

- Drives innovation within the organization by proposing improvements to existing processes.


What You'll Be Doing


  • You'll partner with our big data development and dev ops teams, bringing cloud- native tech expertise to scale our platform and how we work. With a specialized focus & expertise in Kubernetes optimization, you'll play a crucial role in designing, deploying and maintaining our cloud infrastructure
  • Kubernetes Management: Take ownership of Kubernetes infrastructure, including the design, deployment, and maintenance of Kubernetes clusters across multiple environments (development, staging, and production)
  • Collaboration: Work directly with the big data software engineers and operations teams to build out a modular and flexible ecosystem to deploy and run all Arcadia applications from web apps to data processing streams apps
  • Deployment and Scaling: Implement efficient deployment strategies for applications and services using Kubernetes, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Develop and maintain robust monitoring and alerting systems for Kubernetes clusters, proactively identifying and resolving issues to ensure optimal performance and uptime
  • Performance Optimization: Continuously analyze and optimize Kubernetes infrastructure for improved resource utilization, performance, and cost efficiency
  • Automation and Infrastructure as Code: Collaborate with the DevOps team to automate infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and deployment using ArgoCD, Kustomize, Helm, Jib, ECR, GitHub Actions, Gradle, and others
  • Telemetry: Using cloud native tools from Grafana Labs, build out a complete and consistent monitoring solution for containerized apps
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security best practices, policies, and procedures for Kubernetes clusters, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Incident Response and Disaster Recovery: Participate in incident response activities, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews. Contribute to disaster recovery planning and testing
  • Documentation: Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, provide technical guidance, and share knowledge. Document system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting procedures


What You'll Bring


  • You have spent at least 1 year managing large production enterprise Kubernetes clusters
  • You have solid experience as a Cloud Platform Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, or similar role, with a focus on managing Kubernetes infrastructure
  • You bring in-depth, practical knowledge of Kubernetes architecture, components, and best practices for cluster deployment, scaling, and management
  • You are proficient in deploying and managing applications using Kubernetes features like pods, deployments, services, and persistent volumes
  • You have a strong understanding of cloud computing concepts and experience working with major cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • You have hands-on professional experience with containerization technologies, such as Docker, and container orchestration tools like Helm, Kustomize, or similar
  • You have experience with infrastructure as code tools like ArgoCD, Flux, Git Operator, Terraform, or similar, and Git version control system
  • You understand networking principles, load balancing, and DNS configurations in a cloud environment
  • You can troubleshoot efficiently, with the ability to analyze complex systems and quickly resolve issues
  • You are familiar with security best practices for Kubernetes, including authentication, authorization, and network policies
  • You are a great communicator (written & verbal) and can collaboration effectively in cross-functional teams


Would Love For You To Have


  • You have experience with AWS and EKS
  • You have experience with ArgoCD and Crossplane
  • You have relevant certifications, such as Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD)

This position is responsible for following all Security policies and procedures in order to protect all PHI under Arcadia's custodianship as well as Arcadia Intellectual Properties. For any security-specific roles, the responsibilities would be further defined by the hiring manager.
