Senior Product Manager

About Elicit

Elicit is an AI research assistant that uses language models to help researchers figure out what’s true and make better decisions, starting with common research tasks like literature review.

What we're aiming for:

  1. Elicit radically increases the amount of good reasoning in the world.

    • For experts, Elicit pushes the frontier forward.

    • For non-experts, Elicit makes good reasoning more affordable. People who don't have the tools, expertise, time, or mental energy to make well-reasoned decisions on their own can do so with Elicit.

  2. Elicit is a scalable ML system based on human-understandable task decompositions, with supervision of process, not outcomes. This expands our collective understanding of safe AGI architectures.

Why we're hiring for this role

We have product-market fit, with several hundreds of thousands of monthly active users, a few million in ARR after our first year of paid subscriptions, and significant inbound enterprise interest every day. This has been energizing for our team, but we want to take it to the next level.

We dream of helping significantly more people with more types of thinking. That’s where you come in.

We want a Senior Product Manager to take the foundations we’ve established and build something with an even bigger impact.

This type of role is rare:

  1. You’ll work in a space where every day brings leaps forward in the technological capabilities of the models.

  2. You’ll build entirely new, language-model-first paradigms.

  3. You’ll prioritize true, lasting impact and not short-term profits.

Your day to day

  • Lead product projects from concept through launch. You’ll lead the team’s approach toward new features and improvements in Elicit by setting the product vision, generating and validating solutions, and evolving experiences to have the greatest possible impact. You’ll drive projects end-to-end, from prototype to implementation to later iteration.

  • Solving Elicit’s toughest product challenges. You will rarely (if ever) start with a defined product project at Elicit. You’ll get to work across functions to push the progression of the product and shape how Elicit works. We need you to think through intuitive, focused product solutions to help our users move elegantly through their most critical workflows.

  • Embodying the voice of our users. You’ll work with the team to develop a deep understanding of users’ behaviors, drive user research, and leverage that information into hypotheses and design experiments that guide us toward the best user outcomes.

  • Ensuring the success of new Elicit features. You’ll work closely with the Head of Product and our team of engineers and designers to define the product strategy & roadmap, define success metrics for new features and improvements to Elicit, ensure high-quality implementation, and ship at a high velocity.

The skills & experiences we’re looking for

  • Execution excellence. You take full ownership and get things done. You have a proven track record (6+ years) of launching new products that drive long-term customer love and business impact. You are comfortable across the full stack of product management - defining success, writing specs, talking to users, running analytics, prioritizing feature work, managing releases, etc. You have led a multi-functional team of engineers and designers and managed products across their full life cycle.

  • Early-stage mindset. You thrive in the high-velocity, high ambiguity, "zero to one” early stages of product building. You're willing to do the unglamorous work early on, then systematize what works. You have hands-on experience at early-stage, fast-growing startups, working directly with design and engineering teams.

  • Customer obsession. You're genuinely excited about working with researchers and have an instinct for uncovering their deepest needs and pain points.

  • First-principles thinking. There are no experts on AI research assistants yet - you should be excited about pioneering this space: deeply understanding AI’s potential while uncovering what is holding research back.

  • Humility & truth-seeking. Our mission is to scale up high-quality reasoning. We care a lot about rigorous thinking and communication, without ego and always seeking the truth. We want someone who is very iterative and highly-receptive to feedback; someone that knows their strengths and how to leverage them, and also their development areas.

Experiences that are not required but are extra helpful:

  • Building products for researchers or biomedical companies

  • Proficiency with LLMs or ML-centric tools

  • Experience building tools-for-thought, solving complex workflows, or scaling Enterprise/SaaS apps

We are also open to more senior PM candidates (ie Principal, Group PM). We encourage everyone who is interested to apply, even if you're not sure you match the full description here.

Who you’ll work with

This role will report to Kevin, Elicit's Head of Product, and work closely with our engineering and design teams.

You'll also spend a lot of time collaborating co-founders Jungwon & Andreas.

Compensation, benefits, and perks

In addition to working on important problems as part of a productive and positive team, we also offer great benefits (with some variation based on location):

  • Flexible work environment: work from our office in Oakland or remotely with time zone overlap (between GMT and GMT-8), as long as you can commit to spending at least 1 of every 6 weeks in person for retreats and coworking events

  • Fully covered health, dental, vision, and life insurance for you, generous coverage for the rest of your family

  • Flexible vacation policy, with a minimum recommendation of 20 days/year + company holidays

  • 401K with a 6% employer match

  • $2,000 device budget to start, with more accumulating for each month of work

  • $500 / year personal development budget

  • A team administrative assistant who can help you with personal and work tasks

  • You can find more reasons to work with us in this thread!

For all roles at Elicit, we use a data-backed compensation framework to keep salaries market-competitive, equitable, and simple to understand.

  • This role starts between $180-200K + equity, depending on your level. We're optimizing for a hire who can contribute at a L4/senior-level or above.
