Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Human Factors Scientist in our Human Factors Practice in our Washington, DC office. In this role, you will work as part of a team to analyze human performance related to a wide variety of scenarios involving driver behavior, driver-vehicle interface evaluations, automated vehicle issues, vehicle and road system design, occupational work, and consumer products. Activities in these contexts will focus on a combination of designing and executing applied research in a variety of contexts and analyzing accidents and injuries that have occurred in the past and managing safety risk to help prevent such incidents in the future. You will work closely with engineers in Exponent’s Vehicle Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Data Science, and Biomechanics Practices.

You will be responsible for

  • Managing a range of consulting activities that involve human factors in accidents and their prevention, including limitations of human perceptual, motor, cognitive, and decision-making capabilities
  • Designing and conducting human performance studies, including data analysis, in support of client needs
  • Conducting hands on inspections and analyzing human performance as it relates to vehicles, roadways, machinery, and industrial equipment and consumer products to investigate accidents and injuries
  • Developing client contacts
  • Working on multi-disciplinary projects and providing case management, data processing, and other project support
  • Conducting research to obtain and review technical data, scientific literature, and standards
  • Participating in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information

You will have the following skills and qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Human Factors, Cognitive, Experimental, or Industrial Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Industrial Engineering (emphasis in Human Factors), or a related Psychology discipline
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills as substantiated by publication and presentation record, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Assertive, self-starter, and able to work with accuracy under pressure and/or deadlines
  • Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation, data analysis, and computer programming (e.g., R, RStudio, Python, Matlab, SAS) is a plus
  • This is a Washington, DC-based position. The successful applicant must live (or be willing to relocate) in the Washington, DC area and be enthusiastic about regularly working in the office.

Compensation

Our consultants are rewarded for their technical and business contributions and have an opportunity to plan for future success and career growth. Exponent's total compensation plan is consistent with its expectations of the quality and quantity of work performed and with the professional standards set by Exponent. At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.

 

The base salary range for this position is dependent on experience and capabilities which will be assessed during the interview process.

Salary Range

USD $104,000.00 - USD $124,800.00 /Yr.
