General Manager, Private Equity

About Fractional AI

Fractional AI is the dev shop for applied AI. We solve hard AI-driven problems that our customers don't have the resources or know-how to staff themselves – cutting through jargon and flashy demos to get AI into production, fast.

Every C-suite in the country is trying to bridge the gap between AI in theory and AI in practice. We close this gap with exceptional engineering talent and custom-end-to-end AI builds.

Private Equity stands to be one of the biggest winners in the entire AI movement. Access to talented AI Engineers is the biggest roadblock for Private Equity firms in executing creative, AI-driven transformations across their portfolio companies. We are looking for an entrepreneurial, strategic, and hungry General Manager to build our Private Equity Practice Area from the ground up, charting our strategy and unlocking Private Equity as a key channel.

About the Role

As the inaugural General Manager for our Private Equity Practice Area, you will chart our strategy, drive key customer use cases, close deals and partnerships, and generally own the vision and execution for creating a $100M+  business.

You will:

  • Set the vision and strategy:  Chart our Private Equity vision and strategy – the sky's the limit here: should we start our own fund and specialize in AI transformations? Partner with mid market Private Equity firms? Specialize in Search Funds?

  • Create win-win opportunities: Build relationships and represent Fractional AI effectively at the executive level, deeply understanding client opportunities, AI possibilities, and Fractional AI’s capabilities to create real value for clients.

  • Lead commercial liftoff: Drive adoption across use cases for Private Equity firms and their portfolio companies. Find win-win partnerships where we can help enterprises automate workflows. Close deals. Double the practice area’s revenue each year.

  • Make Fractional AI a Known Name in Private Equity: Shape thought leadership through white papers, conference speaking engagements, and events.

  • Scale the team: Day 1, this will begin as an individual contributor role in a scrappy organization. We’re ready to start hiring aggressively as soon as you make the business case, at which time you’ll grow, develop, and lead this team and broader P&L.

What you bring to the table:

  • You are passionate about applying AI to real problems. You are intellectually curious about the frontiers of the technology, able to work well with engineers, and pragmatic about creating value with real applications.

  • Experience leading a business, practice area, or P&L – strategy through execution. You’ve been a CEO at a Private Equity backed company, Partner at a large Consulting firm serving Private Equity Clients, or Principal or Managing Director at a Private Equity Firm.

  • Unmatched relationships and relationship building. You have a multi-page list of people to call across the Private Equity ecosystem the day you sign the offer letter.

  • Fluency across the language of tech startups and that of Private Equity. You demonstrate credibility and experience in both realms, playing a key translational role.

  • Low ego/ high resourcefulness. You are doer, not an armchair strategist. You are comfortable rolling up your sleeves.

  • Team building and followership. You’ve built teams, grown leaders, and inspired followership

Snapshot of your first 30 days:

  • You’ve crafted a year 1 Private Equity roadmap.

  • You’ve closed your first deal and have led dozens of introductory calls.

  • You’ve contributed to Private Equity-specific Fractional AI thought leadership - your expertise shaping a white paper, customer dinner, or webinar.

  • You’ve engrossed yourself in the work we do and all things AI.

Why you should (and shouldn’t) join us

We’re big believers in transparency and know joining a company is a big decision. We’re not the best fit for everyone and try to be clear on what we are and what we’re not so you make the choice that’s right for you.

Why join Fractional?

  • A huge and growing problem space: Getting genAI into production is the challenge of our time – with legacy consulting firms already driving several billion dollars per year on genAI advising revenue. Most offerings on the market don’t meet the need – they are one size fits all product solutions or advising services without the engineering team to deliver. We offer the engineering talent to meet the need.

  • Unmatched space to build: you will have the greenspace to build the Private Equity business from scratch – unmatched ownership, accountability and impact without the bureaucracy.

  • Join a leadership team of veteran founders: the team is built from multi-time founders and co-founded by Travis May, former CEO of LiveRamp and founder + former CEO of Datavant.

Why shouldn't you join Fractional?

  • We are unapologetically building an engineering-first culture – this is how we build the team to meet the moment. We overdeliver for our clients by crafting a culture that enables the best engineers to thrive.

  • We work hard. You’ve probably gotten that we have big ambitions. We’re relentless in our execution towards these goals and are a lean team with a “do it ourselves” mantra. No job too big, no job too small.

Our Values

Overdeliver.

Overuse AI.

Over "engineer" the culture.
