(2924) DevOps Engineer

As a DevOps Engineer at IAMUS Consulting, you will be responsible for supporting the development and deployment of cloud infrastructure in AWS, managing Kubernetes containers, automating deployment processes, and ensuring the reliability and scalability of our services. You will collaborate with development teams, monitor production systems, troubleshoot issues, and continuously seek ways to improve our infrastructure.

To be considered for the DevOps Engineer position at IAMUS Consulting, you need a current U.S. Government Security clearance, at least 5 years of experience in DevOps Engineering or Software Development, and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Alternatively, a Master's degree with 3 years of relevant experience or a High School Diploma with 9 years of related experience is acceptable. Proficiency in Linux, AWS, and configuration management tools is essential.

While prior experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, PostgreSQL, and others is preferred for the DevOps Engineer role at IAMUS Consulting, it is not strictly required. However, familiarity with these technologies can be beneficial in executing projects that involve large-scale data processing.

A successful DevOps Engineer at IAMUS Consulting should possess strong problem-solving skills, proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python and Bash, and a good understanding of AGILE software development methodologies. Additionally, familiarity with tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Git will be beneficial in this role.

The work environment for DevOps Engineers at IAMUS Consulting is hybrid, allowing for both remote and in-office work. On average, you will work 1-2 days a week in the office, providing flexibility while ensuring you can collaborate closely with your team when needed.

When approaching infrastructure automation, I believe in leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible to define and manage infrastructure. This allows for version control and repeatability. I also prioritize documenting my processes to ensure transparency and seamless onboarding for team members.

In a previous role, I managed a complex deployment involving multiple services with custom configurations. I tackled challenges such as dependency management and downtime by implementing a blue-green deployment strategy and extensive testing. This ensured a smoother transition and minimal disruption.

For monitoring production systems, I utilize monitoring tools like Prometheus and Grafana to track key metrics and set alerts for any anomalies. When troubleshooting, I follow a systematic approach, reviewing logs, and metrics to pinpoint issues quickly, ensuring minimal downtime.

I encourage my team to participate in workshops, webinars, and conferences, as well as allocate time for self-learning. We also have regular knowledge-sharing sessions where team members can present new tools or methodologies they have learned about.

I have primarily used Git in my previous projects for version control. I appreciate its branching and merging capabilities, which allow for parallel development. I also ensure our repositories adhere to best practices for efficiency and clarity.

In case of a failure during deployment, I follow the rollback procedures outlined in our deployment plan to quickly restore the previous stable version. I then perform a post-mortem analysis to identify the cause and implement measures to prevent future occurrences.

Collaboration is crucial in the DevOps Engineer role. I regularly communicate with development teams to understand their needs and challenges. Effective collaboration allows us to align our goals and ensures that our infrastructure meets the application requirements.

Containerization is vital because it ensures consistency across environments, simplifies scaling, and enhances resource utilization. It allows for applications to be packaged with their environment dependencies, reducing compatibility issues and improving deployment speed.

To secure cloud infrastructure, I implement best practices such as using IAM roles for access control, regularly auditing security configurations, and ensuring all services are updated. Additionally, I advocate for encrypting sensitive data both at rest and in transit.

CI/CD is a combination of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment processes that automate the software delivery pipeline. I implement it by setting up automated testing and deployment pipelines that allow code changes to be integrated, tested, and deployed to production seamlessly and quickly.
