Your new role

As our Staff Geologist, you will support environmental investigation and remediation projects. This is a growth position for the right candidate to assist with implementation of environmental field programs in New York State with a focus on safety, efficiency, and compliance with procedures. The successful candidate will work independently, with contractors, and as part of a field crew performing monitoring, sampling, and other site investigation or operation and maintenance activities. The candidate will work with varying levels of direct supervision depending on the project size and complexity. In addition, a strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn is a necessity.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Function as a field team member during execution of investigation projects involving soil boring completion, monitoring well installation, and sampling of environmental media (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, soil vapor and air)
  • Work outdoors in the field 70 to 80% of the time
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors (e.g., drillers, surveyors, geophysical subcontractors)
  • Operation of various types of field monitoring equipment (e.g., low-flow pump, GPS, data loggers, water level meters, photoionization detectors, etc.) and completion of detailed field documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA) forms, project field forms/reports, field notes, and chain-of-custody forms
  • Assist in geologic mapping, cross-section development, geologic interpretation, and geochemistry analysis. Tabulate and evaluate field and analytical data for inclusion in summary reports

About you

  • 1+ years of relevant experience 
  • BS in Geology or Hydrogeology
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, with a current 8-hour refresher certificate
  • Working knowledge of New York State and federal regulations
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities
