Job Title: Chief of Staff

Reporting to: Managing Partner

Location: San Diego, CA

Salary: $175k - $185k

Our client is a global executive search firm specializing in Technology, Engineering, Product and Design leadership.

Position Overview:

The Chief of Staff will serve as a strategic partner to a highly ambitious, idea-driven Managing Partner, acting as connective tissue across the organization while providing structured execution support. This role requires exceptional ability to navigate direct communication styles, transform vision into reality, and drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate will balance high-leverage strategic support with rigorous attention to detail, and thrive in an environment that values both speed and precision.

Success requires an extreme ownership mindset and ability to thrive with minimal direction while creating structure around inspirational leadership. The ideal candidate will balance the MP's focus on revenue-generating activities by ensuring excellent execution across all strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Operations:

    • Collaborate to develop and execute strategic plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

    • Design, implement, and refine operational frameworks and processes for efficiency and scalability.

    • Act as acentral point of contact for cross-functional projects, ensuring progress and alignment across teams.

  • Strategic Communication & Inbox Management:

    • Oversee the MP’s inbox, prioritizing emails, flagging critical items, and ensuring timely responses.

    • Draft and ghostwrite professional email communications, aligning with the MP’s tone and organizational messaging.

    • Facilitate communication across teams, promoting transparency and collaboration.

    • Serve as an advisor to the MP, providing sound recommendations on critical decisions.

  • Project & Stakeholder Management:

    • Drive high-priority initiatives to completion with minimal supervision

    • Build and maintain key relationships across the organization

    • Support preparation for board meetings and strategic planning

    • Represent the MP in internal and external communications as needed

    • Transform quick directives into structured execution plans

  • Data & Systems Management:

    • Drive data integrity in Salesforce and proprietary systems through regular audits

    • Generate actionable insights from reporting and analysis

    • Transform complex data into concise, executive-ready insights

    • Create and maintain performance tracking dashboards

Qualifications:

  • Required Experience & Competencies:

    • 5–10+years in a leadership, consulting, or operations role

    • Experience in a startup, VC, professional services, or high-growth environment preferred.

    • Track record of ownership and driving results independently

    • Strong analytical and strategic thinking abilities

    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Personal Characteristics:

    • Proficiency in tools such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Salesforce

    • Highly organized, self-starter with a results-driven mindset.

    • Collaborative, team-oriented, and adaptable to dynamic situations.

    • High degree of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.

    • Maintains exceptional attention to detail, and expertise crafting high quality presentations, emails and other documentation
