Location: Black Rock Desert, NV

Event Dates: August 24 - September 1, 2025

Operational Period: August 19 - September 2, 2025

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
  • Reporting to the Duty Chief, the Duty Manager provides supervision, support, and guidance to Royal Ambulance EMT, Paramedic, Nursing, and support personnel working in the Burning Man Emergency Healthcare Facility, on ambulances, and quick response vehicles at Burning Man.
  • Provide overall support and leadership to all aspects of Royal’s Burning Man medical operations in conjunction with the Duty Chief and Duty Medical Director.
  • Handles sensitive interpersonal issues, provides management-level guidance and support to supervisors to resolve personnel matters in consultation with Royal Human Resources and senior leadership.
  • Completes shift-based documentation, and reports, and drives process improvement across multiple shifts.
  • Respond to high acuity incidents, mass casualty incidents, and other significant events to provide leadership and incident command support.
  • Handle initial personnel disputes, shift staffing, and general support of EMS crews.
  • Work collaboratively with Burning Man Emergency Services leadership in the management of emergency responses and patient care.
  • Provides patient care within your scope of practice.
  • Coordinates with Royal Burning Man leadership for management of major incidents involving external stakeholders and personnel.
  • Coordinates with dispatch to respond on foot or other non-vehicular means to the appropriate location using the most expeditious route.
  • Determines the nature and extent of illness or injury and establishes priority for required emergency care.
  • Understands all applicable legal, moral, and ethical issues surrounding emergency medical service.
  • Prioritizes decisions and acts quickly in the best interest of the patient.
  • Remains calm while working in difficult and stressful situations, and stays focused while carrying out the functions of the position. 
  • Reports verbally and in writing, their observation and emergency medical care of the patient at the emergency scene and in transit, to the receiving medical facility staff for purposes of records and diagnostics.
  • Assists in lifting and carrying patients.
  • Make careful checks of all equipment so that medical gear is ready for the next patient.
  • Ensures that all equipment is clean, washed, and kept in professional condition.
  • Identifies customer service opportunities through effective listening and an understanding of the customers' needs.
  • Maintains a positive, courteous, and respectful relationship with patients, customers, and team members.
  • Understands Royal's mission, values, and quality standards by effectively demonstrating these core concepts in all interactions.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must work a minimum of four (4) 12-hour shifts during the operational period.
  • Valid Driver's License and/or Ambulance Attendant License.
  • Driving Record must be acceptable (waived for non-driving positions).
  • Three (3) years of recent management experience in a hospital or EMS setting.
  • Possess a valid Nevada Paramedic or EMT license with ambulance endorsement or EMS-RN or able to obtain by July 1st, 2025.
  • State of Nevada Certification.
  • Possess a valid American Heart Association (AHA) CPR card - BLS, ACLS, and PALS.
  • TB Test and Flu Shot (within the last 12 months, with documentation).
  • Immunization Records: Flu, Tdap, Varicella, HepB, and MMR within the last 10 years, with documentation.
  • Completion of ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, & IS 800 by July 1st, 2025.


Preferred Requirements:
  • Experience working with Emergency Medical Services.
  • Prior experience at Burning Man.
  • Experience working in a close-quarters or communal living environment.


Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to sit, climb, balance, step, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 150 pounds, and occasionally up to 200 pounds.


Pay and Benefits:
  • Duty Manager temporary positions for Burning Man will be paid $50.00 per hour under Nevada state regulations.
  • Shared housing, either in a shift pod or bunkhouse, may be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Royal will provide some meals, and preference will be given to participants who are attending or have previously attended Burning Man and can be self-sufficient.
  • When not on duty, employees are free to enjoy everything Black Rock City has to offer.

Additional Information:
  • These temporary positions will conclude on or after September 2, 2025. Employees will receive a credential allowing them to enter the event.
  • The employee will regularly work with confidential patient and personnel information.
  • The employee must maintain composure and tact in stressful situations.
  • They must communicate effectively in writing, verbally, and through radio and telephone communications.
  • Additionally, they must demonstrate compassion and a sincere dedication to patient needs, concerns, and information confidentiality.
