Whether you are an established professional in the transportation field or just starting your career, INDOT has exciting and challenging opportunities for you. Role Overview:This position will serve as a Design Intern for the Seymour Division of the Indiana Department of Transportation. The Intern will be responsible for a variety of division projects and support. The objective of the position is to provide a valuable learning experience for the intern, as well as to assist the agency in completing their assignments and responsibilities. The Intern will report to Jane Twaddle.Salary Statement:The hourly rate for this position is $16.24 for those that do not hold a bachelor’s degree & $17.24 for those that hold a bachelor’s degree or higher by the time the internship starts.Location:This position is located in INDOT’s Seymour District.A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:• Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study• Create, develop, and sustain the programmatic efforts for the assigned discipline• Analyze data and feedback to provide recommendations• Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects• Collaborate with State of Indiana agencies to ensure effective implementation of internal and external initiatives• Assist professional engineers in preparing roadway and bridge design plans• Use MicroStation CADD software to draw plans• Assist in taking field notes, necessary for plan construction• Research design standards for incorporation into the plans• Estimate project costs• Tabulate pay quantities• Run Collision software to support design decisions• Assist in preparing environmental permits• Review plans and other contract documents for accuracy• Provide input to the designer to deliver a better projectThe job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
