The document and data controller is responsible for compiling and entering engineering related documentation into the Thorlabs ERP system and to smooth the transition from development to manufacturing. This individual works closely with the Engineers to process documents related to product improvements, changes, and new product development. The individual requires excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. This role works in concert with production, purchasing, inventory control and marketing to ensure that all details are followed on the ECO and the release of the ECO’s are distributed worldwide. Although the location of the position is in Newton, NJ, from time to time it may be required to undertake duties at other Thorlabs locations.

If you’re passionate about science, detail-oriented, and enjoy a collaborative atmosphere, this position could be a perfect fit for you. As a Document and Data Controller at Thorlabs, you will play a crucial role in ensuring a seamless transition from product development to manufacturing. You’ll be working closely with our Engineers to compile, enter, and manage engineering-related documentation within our ERP system. Your primary responsibilities will include data entry, revising documents, and coordinating product changes through Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). You’ll also maintain the latest revision levels of documentation and assure that obsolete materials are phased out. With your organizational skills, you’ll assist in facilitating preproduction meetings and the approval process for ECOs while contributing to the continuous improvement of our workflow. This is a sedentary role, but it requires some filing and document management. We prefer candidates who have 2-3 years of relevant experience and proficiency in ERP systems and MS Office.
