Washburn Center for Children is a leading children’s mental health center, caring for a wide variety of children’s needs associated with anxiety, depression, behavioral difficulties and trauma.
The 141-year-old nonprofit offers critical mental health intervention to help children - and their families - realize hope. Washburn Center for Children serves almost 4,000 children ages 0-18 and approximately 9,000 family members each year. Washburn Center’s three office locations – Brooklyn Park, Edina, and Minneapolis – serve the entire Twin Cities metro area. The nonprofit also offers in-home services, and its school-based program serves 50+ schools in the Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Minneapolis, Savage, Burnsville and Eagan school districts.

The Associate Director of Human Resources will play a critical role in supporting the strategic and operational HR needs of our nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to transforming children’s health care. This role will partner with the VP of Culture to develop and implement HR strategies that foster an inclusive and high-performing culture, ensure compliance with employment laws, and drive employee engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic HR Leadership
· Assist in developing and implementing HR strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
· Partner with leadership to design workforce plans and ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
· Collaborate with EDI leader to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion to enhance organizational culture and employee experience.
Talent Management
· Support HR processes including onboarding, development, and retention
· Collaborate with leaders to establish career paths, succession planning, and employee development programs.
· Monitor and analyze workforce metrics to identify trends and recommend data-driven solutions.
Supervisor and Leadership Training
· Design, implement, and evaluate training programs for supervisors and managers to enhance leadership skills, including communication, conflict resolution, performance management, and DEI principles.
· Conduct regular workshops and coaching sessions for management teams to improve their effectiveness and ensure consistency in applying organizational policies and practices.
· Collaborate with senior leaders to identify leadership development needs and create customized learning solutions.
Employee Relations and Engagement
· Provide counsel to employees and management on employee relations matters, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and employment laws.
· Facilitate conflict resolution, team-building initiatives, and interventions to promote collaboration and mutual respect.
Compliance and Policy Management
· Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, and EEO requirements.
· Conduct audits and investigations to ensure compliance and resolve workplace issues.
Operational Excellence
· Manage vendor relationships for HR services, programs, and training initiatives.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field
· A minimum of 6+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years leading processes, programs or people
· Experience in the nonprofit sector is strongly preferred.
Skills and Competencies
· Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices.
· Expertise in developing and facilitating training programs for managers and leaders.
· Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and build trust across all levels of the organization.
· Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
· Proficiency in HRIS platforms and workforce data analysis.
· Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
· Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including FMLA, ADA, and EEO requirements.

Washburn offers benefits to Full-Time benefit eligible employees comprehensive Dental, Vision, Health, Life and Long-term disability insurance. Additionally, we offer a 403b retirement plan and a flexible benefit option (FSA).
Vacation: Paid Vacation accrues at 10 hours of vacation per month - up to 15 days / 120 hours annually.
Sick Leave: Paid sick leave accrues at 6.68 hours of sick per month - up to 10 days / 80 hours.
Holidays: There are 2.5 days/20 hours of floating holidays per year in addition to the eight standard holidays.
