Role Summary


Alaska Airlines (AS) is seeking a Technical Services Specialist or a Senior Technical Services Specialist to join the Technical Services division of the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) team. As an individual contributor, this role will provide technical assistance and advice to all M&E departments in their assigned specialties and assist technicians on the ground to diagnose and solve challenging aircraft avionics, systems, and powerplant issues. This role is also responsible for monitoring routine and chronic aircraft maintenance problems, monitoring deferred items, and identifying any required or necessary corrective action, and providing onsite support at the aircraft as needed at Alaska Airlines (AS).


Key Duties


Intermediate level (P2)

  • With limited direction from manager, works independently to provide technical assistance to maintenance control and all maintenance departments for aircraft on ground (AOG) or problem aircraft.
  • Monitors maintenance flight logs, avionics health, aircraft LLM, ETOPS, delay/cancellation reports, TRAX recurrent items, and MEL/CDL usage to identify technical problems and/or recurrent technical issues.
  • Monitors AHM (Aircraft Health Monitoring) and issue preventive corrective action.
  • Monitors EHM (Engine Health Monitoring) trend analysis and issue preventive corrective action.
  • Makes recommendations on corrective action in coordination with maintenance control and/or line planning and sets the priority for work to be accomplished.
  • Takes initiative to evaluate reliability sources, maintenance flight logs, and delay/cancellation reports to identify repeat problems concerning ETOPS significant systems.
  • Makes recommendations on technical assistance to the engineering group as needed.
  • Travels and works at various stations within the Alaska network approximately once per month.



Senior level (P3)

  • Acts as a subject matter expert in technical assistance by collaborating with various M&E departments for AOG or problem aircraft which may include on-site technical assistance as needed.
  • Networks with various maintenance departments and line planning to initiate corrective and priority action.
  • With minimal direction from leadership, exercises considerable judgment to make decisions in addressing questions and concerns from internal and external stakeholders, including FAA and executive management.
  • Applies deep knowledge in monitoring maintenance flight logs, aircraft LLM, ETOPS, delay/cancellation reports, and TRAX recurrent items to identify technical problems and/or recurrent technical issues.
  • Observes AHM and EHM trends and makes decisions on preventive corrective action.
  • Makes recommendations to partnering M&E departments on process improvement opportunities.
  • Represents the manager of the Technical Services team and their responsibilities while out-of-office.
  • Manages the execution of projects and process improvements within Technical Services department.
  • Travels and works at various stations within the Alaska network approximately once per month.



Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills


Technical Services Specialist (P2)

  • Required:
  • 2 years of aviation experience troubleshooting aircraft Avionics, Systems, and Powerplant or related area.
  • Bachelor's degree, or an additional two years of relevant aircraft Avionics, Systems, and Powerplant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Background in commercial aircraft avionics, systems, or powerplant system, operation, and components.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
  • Ability to meet assigned project deadlines with self-directed decision-making.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule (e.g., evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Travel required approximately 10% of the time.
  • Valid passport is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Preferred:
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, operating policies, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in reading and analyzing engine trending data.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of engine manufacture data systems and technical manuals.
  • Experience in Airbus A321, Airbus A330, and Boeing 787 aircraft systems and components or experience with General Electric GEnx, Rolls Royce Trent, or Pratt & Whitney engines.



Senior Technical Services Specialist (P3)

  • Required:
  • 4 years of aviation experience troubleshooting aircraft avionics, systems, and powerplant, or related area.
  • Bachelor's degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Experience with commercial aircraft avionics, systems, or powerplant system, operation, and components.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, operating policies, and procedures.
  • Strong background in powerplant (CFM-56, Leap 1A/B, and APU) with a working knowledge of avionics and systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in reading and analyzing engine trending data.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and developing corrective actions for complex discrepancies.
  • Knowledgeable in the use of engine manufacture data systems and technical manuals.
  • Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule (e.g., evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Travel required approximately 10% of the time.
  • Valid passport is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in Airbus A321, Airbus A330, and Boeing 787 aircraft systems and components or experience with General Electric GEnx, Rolls Royce Trent, or Pratt & Whitney engines.



Airport SIDA Badge Requirements


Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review the SIDA Badge Requirements document for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.

142700.00-168000.00 / year


Pay Details


  • Technical Services Specialist (P2) - $142,700.00 - $149,100.00
  • Sr. Technical Services Specialsit (P3) - $151,300.00 - $168,000.00



Salary Details


Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.


Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
