As a Tech Lead at BetterUp, you will play a critical role in defining and executing the strategy for
our internal business systems. You will be responsible for creating value by integrating our value chain through effective and efficient systems and processes. This role requires a software engineering background and experience, excellent stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Strategy & Vision:
Define and lead the overall engineering strategy for internal business systems.
Create a compelling technical vision for the internal platform ecosystem.
Advocate for internal platform architecture and drive alignment with senior leadership.
Roadmap Development & Execution:
Ensure timely delivery of platform features and enhancements.
Develop and maintain a prioritized engineering roadmap
Manage the full engineering lifecycle for the internal business systems platform.
Ensure timely delivery of platform features and enhancements.
Actively write code and contribute to the development of the platform.
Balance rapid prototyping (also low-/no-code) with productionizing products.
Integrate solutions instead of building net-new when appropriate.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
Collaborate with product managers from different SaaS product teams.
Partner with engineering leaders to drive platform reliability and performance.
Act as the primary liaison deeply embedded within line of business teams, ensuring seamless integration and active participation in critical business operations and processes.
Metrics & Performance Management:
Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics.
Gather feedback from users to improve platform functionality and user experience.
Conduct A/B testing and data-driven experiments.
Thought Leadership & Mentorship:
Stay up to date with industry trends and share insights across the organization.
Mentor and support junior engineers within the platform product team.
Lead cross-functional teams in driving platform-wide initiatives.
Qualifications:
5+ years of engineering experience with a focus on internal tooling, SaaS platforms, or related areas.
Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, React, or Ember with hands-on experience building and maintaining scalable applications.
Proven experience in leading internal infrastructure and platform products.
Strong technical background with a solid understanding of data architecture, automation, and business process management.
Experience working closely with engineering teams on platform infrastructure, microservices, APIs, and data processing pipelines.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Experience with product discovery techniques including product analytics, A/B testing, and user research methodologies.
Strong business acumen and the ability to balance short-term wins with long-term strategic initiatives.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
Preferred Experience:
Hands-on experience with Go-to-market and back-office infrastructure such as Salesforce, Hubspot, Netsuite.
Experience with low-code/no-code solutions for integrations such as Zapier and UIPath.

The base salary range for this role is $170,000– $293,000.
