The Office of Special Events is seeking to hire an Inspector to work in a dual role, performing both Event and Banner Inspections.
As an Event Inspector, the selected candidate will inspect all roadway/street defects and openings belonging to utility companies, plumbers, contractors, and other agencies in preparation for Citywide Events. They will be required to perform the following duties: evaluate conditions and take appropriate action; re-inspect and confirm all repairs have been corrected and verify actual condition; respond to complaints regarding roadway defects, check building operations and ensure that contractors comply with DOT Rules and Regulations; observe backfill and restorations on protected streets to ensure compliance with Local Law 14; act as a liaison between DOT divisions, City agencies, State agencies, utility companies, and contractors; attend field meetings to advise and ensure DOT rules regulations and guidelines are adhered to regarding public safety, enforce Special Events Construction Embargoes; ensuring all defects are identified and reported to the proper agency, utility companies, contractors, coordinate and expedite repairs prior to the event; oversee repairs on behalf of the agency; perform final inspection of event location(s) and route(s) DOT divisions, City agencies, State agencies, utility companies, contractors and event producers to ensure routes are safe and free of all sidewalk and roadway defects that fall under the jurisdiction of the New York City Department of Transportation.
As a Banner Inspector, the selected candidate will inspect complaints,24-hour notice re-inspections, event and date-related campaigns, etc. Perform inspections within assigned boroughs/zones in all 5 boroughs as designated by the Supervisor of the Banner Unit. Schedule and conduct weekly banner inspections using the Banner Tracking Report, which includes zones, locations, organizations, campaigns, and installation dates. Complete inspection reports, daily work logs, and driving trip logs. Document a daily summary sheet with the total count of inspections and actions performed; issue 24-hour notices for banners in disrepair such as: tears, rips, and broken banner brackets. Conduct re-inspections to verify that banners previously cited have been repaired.
The selected Inspector will be expected to properly route daily assignment, search, inspect, log, and maintain all field work using an iPad to submit daily reports, using programs NYCStreets, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Outlook to submit forms and sketches. Inspectors will ensure compliance with NYC DOT Highway Rules.
HIGHWAYS AND SEWERS INSPECTOR - 31626
1. Five years full time satisfactory experience in the construction and/or repair of roads and sewers; or
2. Three years of full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above plus any
combination of college education and/or experience described in "1" above to make up the equivalent of five years of education and experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each 15 semester credits of college education leading to a bachelor's or associate degree in civil engineering or civil engineering
technology from an accredited college or university; or
3. Satisfactory completion of the New York City Department of Transportation apprenticeship program for the Apprentice Inspector (Highways and Sewers).
License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions or encumbrances. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
