Job Description

The Structural Engineer III works closely with more experienced engineers and assists in the development of deliverables. This individual is expected to execute work on one or more intermediate-level tasks simultaneously as delegated by the Lead or Senior Engineer. This individual may also delegate some basic and fundamental tasks to Entry-Level and Design staff. 

Core Activities

  • Interfaces with clients and external partners. 
  • Plans and directs work and manages a project budget from a discipline design perspective on small projects of limited complexity.
  • Supports proposal development under the supervision of a Lead or Senior Engineer.
  • Conducts and leads field surveys of existing conditions and support of field reporting.
  • Identifies basic non-compliant existing conditions during site walks and construction field surveys. 
  • Develops basic internal discipline design and engineering training presentations.
  • Develops construction drawing packages and writes construction specifications on intermediate projects of limited complexity and with little oversight. 
  • Leads squad checks and discipline checks for small projects of intermediate complexity and drives overall project quality.
  • Provides mentorship to discipline Engineer I and/or Designer I and II.
  • Leads intermediate project system design programming and master planning with support from Lead or Senior Engineer. 

This is a hybrid position. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in discipline-specific field 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in a design firm setting 
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit
  • Proficiency in structural design software
  • Intermediate experience with performing engineering calculations, and developing and implementing list of discipline systems designs
  • Intermediate experience with structural material codes
  • Intermediate experience with other applicable industry standards
  • Intermediate experience with applicable building codes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency at coordinating with construction trade partners, vendors and manufacturers
  • Proficiency at structural design calculations with limited supervision 
  • Basic experience with troubleshooting issues with structural systems
