Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September

2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH has evolved into

an integrated network of sixteen charter schools serving approximately 6,350 students in grades K-12

across four campuses.


Located in San Diego County, California, High Tech High (HTH) is guided by four connected design

HTH seeks a Special Education Academic Coach III, to assist students within the classroom setting, as well as facilitate small group and individual instruction.


Grade Level: High School


JOB SUMMARY

The Special Education Academic Coach III is responsible for ensuring that students with exceptional diverse needs have

access to our general education curriculum. Special Education Academic Coaches are essential to maintaining our low student-teacher ratio and ensuring all students get the individualized attention requisite for success.


Duties include:


● Assist teachers by working with individual students on a one-to-one basis

o 1:1 duties include but are not limited to

▪ Toileting and hygiene support

▪ Attending to student health and safety needs; g-tube, medication administration

▪ Implementation of a behavior intervention plan

● Assist teachers by working with individual students to address their special education needs

● Assist with the instruction and supervision of students who may have learning differences

● Assist with tutorial activities working with an individual or group of students who may have learning

differences

● Monitor student progress and provide input for evaluation and parent conference upon request

● Establish rapport and meaningful relationships with referred students to assist in improving their

behavior, educational performance, and social relationships

● Perform clerical support duties including typing, completing documents, forms, record,

correspondence; which may include note taking for students


The ideal candidate would possess the following competencies:

● Ability to evaluate alternatives

● Ability to listen and motivate

● Teamwork

● Create plans and goal set


EDUCATION

● High School diploma/GED and

o An Associate's degree (or higher) or

o 48 or more eligible units of coursework at a recognized college or university or

o Met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal State or local

academic assessment, knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading (or

readiness), writing (or readiness), and mathematics (or readiness).


EXPERIENCE

● Experience in a school/learning environment preferred

● More than 6 months experience in implementing Applied Behavior Analysis

● More than 6 months experience in supporting student medical needs


SALARY & BENEFITS

This is an hourly position that can work variable hours up to 35 per week. This position does not initially

qualify for benefits.
