Manager of Government Affairs and Policy

Overview:
The Manager of Government Affairs and Policy for the Government and Policy (GAP) team will play a critical role in supporting all aspects of the team’s work on global issues, including managing projects, conducting research, organizing events, maintaining relationships, writing internal and external content, and building partnerships. This role will sit on the expanded Office of Government Engagement team in Washington, DC and report directly to the Government Engagement Head and Chief of Staff of the Chief Government Affairs and Policy Officer.


Role:
Draft briefers, talking points, geopolitical analysis, and background materials prior to various advocacy engagements.
Support and track policy issues and the GAP team’s engagement with consultants, trade associations, think tanks, and other third-party groups.
Conduct research and provide analysis of key policy issues or developments that could affect the payments industry around the world.
Provide organizational support for the GAP team, including management of shared team resources and routine internal reporting requirements.
Support event planning for visiting Mastercard executives and external VIP partners and help coordinate site visits.
Leverage the latest technology, stakeholder management, and policy research tools effectively.

All About You:
Experience working in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors, ideally with a focus on foreign policy, international trade, or international business issues.
Experience working on policy and business issues in the private sector or in government preferred.
Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
Proven track record to manage priorities effectively and efficiently in a challenging, fast-paced environment while meeting key deadlines.
Outstanding professional poise and maturity when interacting with internal or external colleagues at every level, all of the time.
Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated ability to conduct research, synthesize complex concepts, and prepare briefings for senior leadership, including written memos and presentations.
Demonstrated project management, organization, and execution skills with strong ability to manage deliverables and deadlines for multiple initiatives and teams.
Demonstrated interest in public policy, technology, current events, and the role of the private sector in the digital economy.

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role. Mastercard benefits for full time (and certain part time) employees generally include: insurance (including medical, prescription drug, dental, vision, disability, life insurance), flexible spending account and health savings account, paid leaves (including 16 weeks new parent leave, up to 20 paid days bereavement leave), 10 annual paid sick days, 10 or more annual paid vacation days based on level, 5 personal days, 10 annual paid U.S. observed holidays, 401k with a best-in-class company match, deferred compensation for eligible roles, fitness reimbursement or on-site fitness facilities, eligibility for tuition reimbursement, gender-inclusive benefits and many more.
