The Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for strategic and tactical leadership of engineering operations for the Materion Precision Optics IR technologies manufactured in Westford &Tyngsboro. Activities, including manufacturing, process& equipment, and coating design engineering, for programs assigned. As Engineering Manager, you provide overall direction and guidance to the engineering team with the objective of maximizing growth and profitability for the IR business unit. The incumbent is responsible for the effective management of all engineering activities associated with the IR product line including collaboration with business and technology leaders as well as supporting manufacturing execution in support of customer orders and development projects.
You will have the opportunity to:
Lead multidisciplinary team of engineers, product and process focused, to define and refine product requirements, implement coating designs, develop processes and ongoing efficiency and innovation for programs assigned
Design / develop coating solutions for programs assigned and implement through direct team, partnerships with production, quality, planning and other supporting functions leading activities to fill customer requirements both internally and with customers as required. Provide product and process development project definition and leadership as well as support contract review as required
Foster a high-performance culture, aligning engineering strategies with overall business objectives. Partner with adjacent departments within Operations and Technology teams to enhance business performance in safety, quality, delivery, and profitability while leveraging data-driven decision making, creating and utilizing performance metrics to enhance productivity and ensuring compliance with Quality Management and Environmental Health and Safety systems. Provide engineering and technology support to additional product lines for local engineering teams as needed
Champion collaboration across departments to improve workflow, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance operational coordination. Enhances workforce development through employee training programs, coaching, prioritizing and mentoring to improved skills and retention of your team
Lead Continuous Improvement activities for assigned areas. Ensure Gross Margin and Cost Savings targets are met on an annual basis. Contribute to / lead plant wide initiatives as requested
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree required, with bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience in optical coating design and process development
A minimum of 10 years of Engineering experience in design and manufacturing process development, optical coatings or similar technologies required
Experience in a low volume / high mix product environment is an asset
A minimum of 8 years of experience in leadership, must have experience managing engineers within MFG and design environment.
A minimum 3 years of experience managing capital projects
Knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation, and human resources)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Track record of successful project management experience, leading multiple projects simultaneously
Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills, along with an ability to create accountability and to lead by example
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills; focus on driving disciplined, fact-based decisions and executing with discipline and urgency
Understanding of optics and experience in a globally matrixed environment
