Senior Perfumer, Functional Fragrance

We believe in the power of automation and carefully applied AI/ML to solve problems that are beyond what the unaided human mind can tackle on its own. In the first phase of our development, we are using our map of odor along with cutting-edge generative AI to create the next generation of aroma molecules (e.g., the ingredients in the fragrances we wear and the products we use). Beyond fragrance machine olfaction has application across many industries, including manufacturing, military, medicine, and more. Working for Osmo means solving problems using digital olfaction for these customers. We're a hybrid company with our headquarters in New York, NY, a new facility under construction in central New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.

Osmo is seeking a Senior Perfumer, Functional Fragrance to serve as a critical bridge between creative artistry and technical mastery, offering the opportunity to contribute to innovative fragrance development in across several categories. This position blends creative fragrance creation, technical expertise, and organizational skills to shape the future of new fragrance development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Fragrance Creation and Development: Conceptualize and develop fragrances, contributing creative ideas to meet project and client briefs. Collaborate with our Master Perfumer on corporate fragrance development and as needed.

  • Innovation:

    • Research and incorporate new raw materials, emerging technologies, and market trends to enhance creative outputs. Experiment with novel ingredients to push creative boundaries.

    • Partner with machine learning teams to integrate and enhance computational tools for perfumery.

  • Client Collaboration: Prepare fragrance presentations and liaise with clients to align creations with their olfactory preferences.

  • Team Mentorship: Act as a mentor to contribute to the growth of the perfumery team, sharing knowledge on techniques, raw materials, and industry best practices.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with R&D and Chemistry teams to test and optimize fragrances for diverse applications such as personal care and home care.

Required Qualifications

  • Formal training in perfumery.

  • 5-10 years of experience in fragrance creation as fully qualified perfumer, with a strong track record of successfully creating fragrances for small, medium or large clients.

  • Strong problem-solving, creativity, and attention to detail.

  • Familiarity with global fragrance regulations and standards.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.

  • Flexibility and availability for both in-office and remote collaboration while maintaining proximity to NYC and suburban NJ for client site visits.
