Role Summary: 

As a direct report to Pinterest’s VP, Deputy General Counsel and Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer, you will oversee a multi-discipline team spanning Privacy, Ethics and Corporate Compliance, Crisis Management, Business Resiliency and Continuity, and Enterprise Risk Management. 

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing and multi-discipline team of 10 (including lawyers, paralegals and specialists) responsible for Pinterest’s Compliance, Ethics and Risk programs, including internal investigations, as well as Pinterest’s Privacy program, including privacy product counseling and strategy, privacy compliance, data governance, privacy incident management and response, artificial intelligence governance and ethics, and cybersecurity law. 
  • Advise on global privacy laws and ads privacy issues in product development.
  • Build, deploy, and monitor company policies for privacy, compliance, and ethics to align with laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Lead cross-functional teams conducting audits and risk assessments to identify and address potential privacy and legal compliance issues.
  • Provide guidance and training to Pinterest employees on ethical conduct, compliance with company policies, and relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee the investigations function into reported ethical violations and ensure appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Oversee data protection, data privacy, and security measures.
  • Work closely with legal, product and engineering, information security, and HR departments to ensure consistent interpretation and enforcement of compliance policies and processes.
  • Keep senior management informed of significant privacy, compliance and ethical risks and provide solutions and recommendations for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and update existing Company policies and procedures to align with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external regulators and industry organizations to stay informed of changes in regulations and industry standards.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of the privacy, compliance and ethics program and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for privacy legal and privacy compliance concerns.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and developments related to privacy, compliance, ethics, and risk management.
  • Act as a role model for ethical conduct and promote a culture of integrity throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with external advisors and consultants as needed to ensure company compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

 

What we’re looking for:

  • 12+ years of Privacy & Compliance in-house experience within a global, preferably technology company. 
  • A law degree from accredited law school or equivalent and active member of a US state bar or registration as in-house counsel.
  • Subject matter legal expertise in global privacy laws, anti-bribery and anti-corruption laws, economic sanctions, and laws around conducting complex investigations and whistleblower hotlines.
  • Legal practice experience counseling on privacy product development, including ads privacy. 
  • Legal practice experience implementing compliance programs in an in-house corporate setting in any of the aforementioned legal areas.
  • Risk management experience providing advice and counsel on risk management and implementing enterprise risk management programs and practices, including crisis management.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Team management experience is required for this role.

  • We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection.
  • This role will need to be in the office for in-person collaboration 1-2 times per quarter and therefore can be situated anywhere in the country.
