Opioid and Overdose Data Dashboard Projects Lead (Epidemiologist 3/Project)This is a remote project position that will be funded through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of an extension pending additional funding.What You Will Do:In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of public health innovation, leading the development of data visualizations and dashboards that are crucial to the state’s opioid and overdose response efforts. As the Opioid and Overdose Data Dashboard Lead, you’ll guide data science activities that investigate critical trends in human morbidity and mortality related to opioids. You’ll collaborate closely with state, local, and Tribal partners while serving as the agency’s go-to expert on data dashboard development and visualizations. Your leadership will be integral to our data modernization initiative, ensuring that critical information is accessible and effectively used across the state.You’ll take the lead in designing and maintaining dashboards that support opioid response strategies and the transparent use of settlement funds. This position offers the chance to directly impact public health by shaping how data drives decision-making and response activities. From coordinating with internal teams to working with external invested partners, your expertise in data science and public health will make a difference in how communities access life-saving information.Expectations and Responsibilities:• Lead the design and development of opioid and overdose dashboards, working with internal teams and partners to define metrics and measures.• Create and refine dashboard plans using tools like Power BI or GIS Pro, ensuring they align with best practices and get the necessary approvals.• Gather and incorporate feedback to continuously improve dashboard designs and features.• Coordinate with project teams to resolve any issues and keep projects on track, ensuring timely delivery of visualizations and data solutions.• Make sure all dashboards meet agency standards for data accuracy, accessibility, and epidemiological principles.• Oversee the preparation and communication plans for publishing new or updated dashboards.• Partner with local, Tribal, and state agencies to guide the development and distribution of opioid and overdose response dashboards.• Lead meetings and collaborations with stakeholders to identify needs and improve dashboard features.• Represent the agency in discussions about opioid and overdose data visualizations and response strategies.• Support the development of new dashboards or maintain existing ones by working closely with public health experts, data teams, and clinical leaders.You Will Be Successful at the DOH If:• You embrace cultural humility by honoring diverse perspectives and cultures.• You are committed to equity and inclusion, removing barriers, championing social justice, and fostering a sense of belonging.• You use an outward mindset to make impactful contributions, blending your personal expertise with collaborative achievements.• You excel at problem-solving and crafting effective solutions while communicating clearly across different mediums.• You are dedicated to customer service and navigate diverse interactions to build strong organizational relationships.• Your technical competence shines, making you an invaluable asset to our team!Location and FlexibilityWe value work-life balance and offer the convenience of remote work with occasional in-person collaboration opportunities. This is a remote/home-based position available to applicants residing anywhere in Washington State, as well as those living near the Oregon/Washington border and the Idaho/Washington border.What We’re looking for – Required Qualifications:We value all relevant experience, whether paid or unpaid. Education can substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.Lived Experience Option:• Option 1: Eight (8) years of experience working as a data science/engineer or epidemiologist for a public health agency or a similar setting.Education + Experience Options:A degree in informatics, public health, public health informatics, health care informatics, information technology, computer science, information science, statistics or related field AND experience.• Option 2: An Associates degree AND six (6) + years of the experience listed in option1.• Option 3: A Bachelor’s degree AND four (4) + years of the experience listed in option1.• Option 4: A Master’s degree or higher AND two (2) + years of the experience listed in option1.Additional Required Experience:In addition to the options listed above, two (2) or more years or experience in the following:• Experience performing data wrangling with R statistical software.• Experience using Git and GitHub for collaborative coding and code version control.Preferred Experience:The qualifications below are what would make you a strong fit for this role.
