The Vice President of People and General Counsel is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization' people resources, as well as managing legal matters and ensuring compliance with regulatory and legal requirements. This dual role requires a combination of strategic people leadership, legal expertise, and a deep understanding of organizational policies and laws. The role is part of the Executive team. 


What will I be doing? 🤔
  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and implement people and legal strategies that align with the company’s long-term goals and objectives.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to both the People and Legal teams.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the executive leadership team, offering insights on workforce strategy, legal risks, and compliance.
  • Lead organizational change and transformation initiatives, ensuring legal and people considerations are addressed.

  • People Management:
  • Oversee recruitment, employee retention, talent management, and succession planning.
  • Lead the development and implementation of performance management, employee engagement, and organizational culture programs.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, labor relations, and HR best practices.
  • Design and manage compensation and benefits programs, aligning them with industry standards and business goals.
  • Handle employee relations issues, including disputes, disciplinary actions, and grievances, ensuring resolution in a fair and legally compliant manner.
  • Drive diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives to foster a positive workplace culture.

  • Legal Oversight:
  • Provide counsel on legal issues, including employment law, contracts, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, including employment agreements, vendor contracts, and service agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including labor laws, data privacy, and workplace safety.
  • Manage legal disputes, investigations, and litigation, working with external legal counsel as necessary.
  • Lead efforts in risk management and implement legal strategies to protect the company from potential liabilities.

  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Develop and oversee corporate compliance programs, ensuring the organization operates within legal and ethical standards.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes, updating policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Implement risk management strategies, identifying potential legal or compliance risks and mitigating them.
  • Conduct legal and People audits to ensure alignment with internal policies and external regulations.

  • Collaboration and Communication:
  • Partner with internal departments such as Finance, Operations, and IT to align people and legal strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as legal counsel, government agencies, and industry bodies.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership, board members, and employees on legal and people matters, ensuring transparency and understanding.
  • Prepare and present reports on key legal and people metrics, risks, and initiatives to senior management and the board of directors.


What do we need from you? 😎
  • 10+  years of experience in people management, employment law, or corporate legal counsel roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership position.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional people and legal topics in fast-paced environments.
  • Expertise in employment law, contract negotiation, and corporate governance.
  • Strong understanding of people's best practices, employee relations, performance management, compensation, and labour laws.
  • Registered and qualified with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
