Position Information

We are seeking an AgriLife Research Compliance Coordinator (75%)/ANSC Compliance Professional (25%) is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and institutional regulations related to research, teaching, and testing activities involving animal use. The position requires strong organizational, communication, and compliance oversight skills to support the AgriLife IACUC and institutional compliance programs and ensure ethical and regulatory standards are upheld. The successful candidate will assist in protocol reviews, maintaining accurate records, providing compliance guidance, and develop training. This role combines regulatory knowledge, customer service, and administrative expertise to support the compliance needs of the AgriLife IACUC and the Department of Animal Science (ANSC).

Responsibilities:

Protocol Review & Guidance

  • Consults and advises faculty, staff, and students preparing research protocols, ensuring compliance with Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) requirements, institutional guidelines, and federal regulations.
  • Conducts preliminary Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocol reviews as needed and provides feedback to improve submissions.
  • Monitors research projects to ensure adherence to the approved Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) protocols.

Compliance Program Development

  • Assists in developing, establishing, and maintaining an effective compliance program based on ethical conduct and adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies.
  • Identifies potential compliance vulnerabilities and develops action plans to address non-compliance.
  • Recommend guidelines, procedures, and policies to strengthen compliance efforts across the organization.

Training & Development

  • Assists in creating training materials and delivers regulatory training for faculty, staff, and students as needed.
  • Supports the development and modification of standard business practices and processes for the compliance office.

Records Management & Reporting

  • Maintains organized electronic and paper records of compliance documents, reports, and notices.
  • Prepares reports on compliance efforts and ensures documentation is accurate, complete, and up to date.
  • Formulates, maintains, and monitors a database of rules, procedures, and compliance requirements.

IACUC Administrative Support

  • Prepares materials, reports, and correspondence for IACUC meetings.
  • Reviews meeting minutes and correspondence for accuracy based on committee decisions.
  • Serves as a resource for investigators and committee members, providing guidance on compliance-related issues.

Audit & Investigative Support

  • Support internal and external audits, including pre-audit planning, responding to requests, and follow-up audits.
  • Support responses to violations of policies or regulations by recommending and participating in investigative procedures.

Other Duties

  • Maintains effective communication and timely responses related to compliance reviews, including non-compliance issues.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and develops a plan of action to bring any noncompliant areas into compliance. Responds to apparent violations of policies, procedures, or other regulatory standards by recommending and participating in investigative procedures. Assists in coordinating internal and/or external audits, including providing information requested, coordinating responses, planning and coordinating pre-audits and follow-up audits.
  • Oversees monitoring of policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of related experience in compliance programs and/or activities.
  • Experience with databases and spreadsheet software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of federal and institutional regulations for research, teaching, and testing involving animals.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Must be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of supervisory or project management experience.
  • Experience with IACUC compliance in an academic setting.
  • Experience with agricultural animals in production or research settings.
  • Working knowledge of IACUC protocols and regulatory requirements for animal research.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality professional products in a timely manner.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to excellence.
