Applicants will have an M.A. in Japanese, Japanese Language Pedagogy, Japanese Linguistics, or related field, or applicants will complete the MA by August 15, 2025. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and the compensation includes a full benefits package.The successful applicant will a) contribute to the development and teaching of Japanese language and culture courses including online); b contribute to a robust undergraduate major in Japanese language and culture by collaborating with colleagues to ensure smooth articulation across the levels of language instruction and by participating in course design and creation; c) provide extracurricular support of the program through service that includes placement testing, weekly language tables, and other activities relating to extracurricular Japanese language use. The typical teaching assignment for a lecturer is three courses per semester.The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is home to multiple language programs. It offers training in languages and cultures from all corners of the globe.UF is the state's oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land grant university with an enrollment of over 50,000 students and was ranked 7th in the country among public universities (US News and World Report 2025 rankings), and 1st among public institutions in the Wall Street Journal 2023 survey. UF is located in Gainesville, a city of approximately 150,000 residents in North-Central Florida, 50 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, and 67 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, and within a 2-hour drive to large metropolitan areas (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville). The beautiful climate and extensive nearby parks and recreational areas afford year-round outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, and nature photography.
